Homebrew Brathnoc Species Details
Brathnoc are an aquatic race of mantalike humanoids, dwelling within the depths of the oceans. Their unique physiology and culture set them apart from other underwater inhabitants.
Brathnoc Traits
Brathnoc have the following traits:Ability Score Increase
Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Age
Brathnoc reach maturity around the age of 20 and can live up to 150 years.
Alignment
Brathnoc are often influenced by their upbringing and environment, but tend towards neutrality.
Size
Brathnoc stand between 5 to 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swimming speed of 40 feet.
Amphibious
You can breathe both air and water.
Ink Jet
As an action, you can shoot a jet of sticky ink from your hands at a target within 30 feet. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier) or be blinded until the end of its next turn. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Darkvision
Accustomed to life in the depths, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Aquan and one other language of your choice.
Culture
Choose between the Settled or Nomadic culture.
Settled Brathnoc
Settled Brathnoc dwell in the city of Hygant amidst the kelp forests.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Empathetic Connection. You have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks when interacting with other creatures.
Kelp Nourishment. By consuming the kelp of the Hygant Forest, you gain clarity of mind and control over your bloodlust. You no longer feel the urge for wanton violence, and have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.
Nomadic Brathnoc
Nomadic Brathnoc roam the ocean in bands.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.
Bloodlust Frenzy. When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, or reduce a creature to 0 hit points, you can enter a state of bloodlust frenzy as a bonus action. While in this state, you gain advantage on melee weapon attack rolls but have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks. The frenzy lasts for 1 minute, ending early if you are incapacitated or if your turn ends and you haven't attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
