Homebrew Woodling Species Details

The Woodlings, are a rare and reclusive race native to forests and woodlands. They are plants, made of bark, branches, and leaves forming a humanoid shape. Beings of nature, the live in perfect harmony with it. It is unknown how Woodlings came to be, weather the were created by fey, druids, or by the primal power of nature itself.

Woodland Tribes:

Woodlings live in small tribes in forested areas, these small communities live and thrive with nature. Most tribes live as nomads, wandering the forest. While a few tribes settle down is an area, forming small villages. The houses in these villages are generally round, made from branches, and with rooves made from leaves. These villages are built in and around the trees and shrubs, making them hard to spot. Tribes are led by shamans, old Woodling priests with vast knowledge of nature.

Woodlings are ever on a quest to learn more about nature, wanting to find its greatest secrets. For this reason, many Woodlings become adventurers, exploring the world in search of knowledge.

Woodling Names:

Woodlings have a first name and a tribe name. the first name is generally the name of a type of plant, and the tribe name is a name chosen by the founding shaman of the tribe, and is given to every member of the tribe.

Ability Score increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

You are a plant.

Darkvision

Accustomed to life in dim forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Durable Hide

Your tree hide is durable and can defend you against attacks, you gain a +1 bonus to your armor class.

Enhanced Movement

As a plant, you are accustomed to forest terrain, difficult terrain costs you no extra movement.

Photosynthesis

As a plant, you gain nourishment through your leaves. You don't need to eat as long as you have ready access to sunlight. If you spend more than 24 hours without access to sunlight you need to eat as normal until you spend at least 1 hour in sunlight.

Primal Magic

You know the druidcraft cantrip. When you reach 3 level, you can cast the healing word spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5 level you can cast the speak with plants spell once with this feature and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
