Homebrew Zora Species Details

Graceful, ornate, and long-lived are all words that are used to describe the semi-aquatic race called the Zora. Found in all freshwater rivers and lakes across Hyrule, with their homeland to the west, the Zora take pride as the guardians of Hyrule’s rivers and lakes and are responsible for managing all of the drinkable water in Hyrule. While long-established guardians of the depths, the Zora still do make their presence known to those on the dry land.

The Zora are aquatic folk possessing both fish-like and amphibious traits including fins, webbed feet, and gills, which allow them to thrive underwater while still being able to survive on land. They have a humanoid form with long tail fins on their heads and finned appendages on their arms and legs. They come in varieties of colors, commonly shades of blue, green, gray, or silver; rarely a Zora could be red or yellow, but such is very uncommon and considered to be pigment disorder. Their legs are short in comparison to the rest of their body, a trait that evolved to give them superior swimming. Despite their stubby legs, they grow to tower most land dwellers, reaching 6 to 8ft in adulthood

The Zora are a proud race with many biases and preconceptions as a result of their way of life. They live incredibly long, often reaching 200 years of life, they view other races with shorter lives with confusion and amusement, the problems of shorter lived races seem more like inconveniences to the Zora and they are known to hold their people and their culture within high regard, which sometimes results in comments or questions about other cultures sometimes coming off as haughty and affrontive. Though their pride and confusion may seem like arrogance it’s rarely ever meant personally.

Zora's fighting style is often synchronized, precise, and deadly. Their fighting involves them either ambushing from a body of water or switching from land to water. Their fighting is said to be as deadly as it is graceful. They often attack in groups of up to 4 or 5. The most common weapon for a Zora to use is a long ranged weapon like a spear or a trident, favored due to their potential to strike from within the water.
