Homebrew Awakened Skeleton Species Details

Death is an inevitability that can manifest in countless ways. Unfortunately for you, you have been brought back into your somewhat pale vanilla life to live the rest of it as a skeleton. You did not decide for this fate, nor did you have a choice in the first place. You may have been experimented on, or the Grim Reaper might have just had a change of heart. You are now just a distorted version of your past self. You look pretty much the same, except for the fact you have no flesh and are now all bones. UNLUCKY mate.

Awakened Skeleton Traits

Even though you are technically dead, and you are now a skeleton, you have some cool new features in your inventory. Aren't you lucky?

Ability Score Increase

As you are now undead, you have an increased resilience, as you are now just a bag of bones. Your constitution score increases by 2.

Age

You do not age

Size

You are the same size as the creature you were in your past life

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Tortured Soul

As a risen soul, you spend your nights being tortured by a higher being. This could be the Grim Reaper, the god of the underworld etc. You must take 1d10 necrotic damage off your max hp after every long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice.

Bone To Pick

Whenever both of your hands are free, you may choose to use a free hand and a bonus action to remove one of your arms. This arm counts as a weapon with the finesse property and it does 1d6 bludgeoning damage + your dexterity modifier, and you have proficiency with your arm while you wield it. If you remove your arm, it can be used as thieves' tools and can be used to pick a lock etc. You can reattach your arm by using another bonus action

Undead Nature

Your creature type is undead, rather than humanoid. As a result of being undead, you have the following benefits:

  • You do not need to eat, drink or breathe
  • You are immune to disease
  • You are immune to poison damage and the poisoned condiiton

Bone Pile

When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. If you do, you reduce yourself to a pile of bones and render yourself prone. While subject to this condition, you are unable to move or take actions other than using an action to end this effect and reassemble yourself. You cannot use this feature again until you finish a long rest.

Spooky Scary Skeletons

Speaking with a Skeleton is terrifying for most mortals. As a skeleton, you have disadvantage on all Charisma checks and saving throws against living creatures, except for intimidation, which you have advantage on.... because you're a skeleton. DUH!

Skeleton of All Occasions

Your extensive lifespan has imparted some useful skills others simply lack the time to master them. You gain proficiency with one skill, one weapon, or one set of artisan tools. You also gain proficiency in one additional language, one musical instrument or a gaming set of your choice
