Homebrew Arachne Species Details

The Arachne are a unique and enigmatic race, bearing a striking fusion of humanoid and arachnid traits. Their appearance is an amalgamation of the graceful features of humans and the sleek, chitinous forms of spiders. Arachne possess elongated bodies, covered in a thin layer of iridescent exoskeleton that shifts in coloration, ranging from shades of deep ebony to shimmering silver. Their eyes, usually ranging in number from six to eight, gleam with an otherworldly intelligence, set within angular faces framed by delicate yet expressive mandibles. Long, slender limbs extend from their bodies, each ending in multi-jointed appendages equipped with fine, nimble digits. These limbs grant them exceptional dexterity and agility, allowing Arachne to move with fluid grace and precision. Despite their somewhat alien appearance, there is a strange allure to their movements, a mesmerizing quality that captivates observers. Arachne possess a natural affinity for climbing, with tiny hairs covering their hands and feet enabling them to adhere effortlessly to almost any surface. Their movements are reminiscent of spiders, allowing them to scale sheer walls and traverse ceilings with ease, defying gravity with every step. In addition to their physical prowess, Arachne possess a range of innate abilities derived from their spider ancestry. They have the ability to sense vibrations transmitted through webs, allowing them to detect the presence of nearby creatures with uncanny precision. Furthermore, they are immune to the entangling effects of webs, effortlessly navigating through even the stickiest of traps. One of the most distinctive features of the Arachne is their venomous bite. While typically reserved for hunting and self-defense, this natural weapon serves as a potent deterrent against would-be aggressors. The venom injected by their bite can incapacitate foes with its potent neurotoxic effects, leaving them vulnerable to the Arachne's subsequent attacks. Despite their unsettling appearance, Arachne possess a complex culture and society. They are fiercely independent and resourceful, often forming close-knit communities within the hidden corners of the world. Though they may face prejudice and suspicion from other races due to their alien nature, Arachne are adaptable and resilient, carving out their own place in the world as skilled artisans, cunning scouts, and formidable adventurers.

Arachne Traits

Darkvision, Spider climb, Spider bite, Web walker, Arachnid Shadowmastery, Web Weaver, Web Sense

Ability Score Increase

Arachnari receive a bonus to their Dexterity and Constitution scores. This represents their agility, reflexes, and physical resilience, traits that are essential for their survival and adaptation in their environment. The specific bonus amounts vary depending on the individual characteristics of the Arachnari, but typically they gain a +2 bonus to Dexterity and a +1 bonus to Constitution. This combination of increased Dexterity and Constitution enhances their combat prowess, stealth capabilities, and overall survivability, reflecting their evolutionary lineage and specialized adaptations as half-spiderfolk.

Darkvision

Darkvision: grants Arachnari the ability to see in dim light or darkness within a specified range. Typically, this range is 60 feet, allowing them to perceive their surroundings clearly in conditions where others would struggle. This trait reflects their nocturnal nature and the adaptations they've inherited from their spider ancestors, providing them with a significant advantage in low-light environments. With Darkvision, Arachnari can navigate unlit dungeons, forests at night, or other areas of shadow with clarity, enhancing their ability to scout, hunt, and evade potential threats.

Spider Climb

Spider Climb: The Spider Climb trait embodies the inherent agility and adaptability of Arachnari, allowing them to traverse vertical surfaces and ceilings with effortless ease. Through a combination of adhesive pads on their limbs and natural dexterity, Arachnari can scale even the most challenging of surfaces without the need for an ability check. This trait enables Arachnari to navigate complex environments, evade pursuit, and access elevated vantage points, reflecting their spider-like capabilities and enhancing their versatility in both exploration and combat situations.

Spider Bite

Spider Bite: You have a natural weapon in the form of a bite, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier, whichever is higher. Additionally, the target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or be poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned in this way, the target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If the poisoned creature fails the Constitution saving throw four times, it becomes paralyzed until it successfully saves against the poison.

Arachnid Shadowmastery

Arachnid Shadowmastery: Arachnid Shadowmastery represents the natural affinity of Arachnari for stealth and shadow. This trait enhances their ability to move unseen and unheard. Arachnari with this trait have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) ability checks. This reflects their exceptional skill in remaining hidden and avoiding detection, allowing them to blend seamlessly into their surroundings and move with unmatched stealth and precision.

Web Weaver

Silken Ambush: As an action, you can weave sticky webs in a 15-foot cube within 30 feet of you. These webs persist for 1 hour or until you use this ability again. Any creatures other than you treat the area as difficult terrain. Additionally, any creature that enters the webs for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there must make a Dexterity saving throw. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. On a failed save, the creature becomes restrained by the webs until it breaks free. A restrained creature can use its action to attempt a Strength check against the same DC, freeing itself on a success. While creatures are restrained by your webs, you have advantage on attack rolls against them.

Dragline Silk: By spending 1 minute, you can produce up to 30 feet of strong, resilient dragline silk. This silk can be used to create ropes, nets, or other objects with tensile strength. The silk remains intact until destroyed or dissolved by a solvent. It can support up to 300 pounds of weight without breaking.

Concealment: You can use your webs to create natural camouflage or concealment. By spending 1 minute, you can weave a veil of webs over an area up to 10 feet in diameter, providing partial cover to creatures within it. This veil lasts for 1 hour or until disturbed.

Communication: By vibrating your webs, you can transmit simple messages to other Arachne within 1 mile. This communication is rudimentary and limited to basic concepts and emotions, but it can be useful for coordinating actions or warning of danger.

Trap Setting: You can use your webs to set traps for unsuspecting foes. By spending 1 minute and expending a length of dragline silk, you can create a snare or tripwire trap. Any creature that triggers the trap must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC as specified for Silken Ambush) or become restrained by the webs.

Web Sense

Web Sense: While you are in contact with your webs, you have an innate sense that allows you to roughly know the location of any creature that makes any kind of movement while touching the same web. This sense extends up to a range of 120 feet from your position. You can use this ability to detect the presence of creatures even if they are invisible or obscured, as long as they are touching the web.
