Homebrew Balneum Species Details
The Balneum are a subspecies of Aaracokra who have adapted to life in the Underdark after a large group of unknown Aaracokra took residence there long ago. They have evolved out of their wings in favor of sharp, clawlike grips on their wrists and feet that help them climb the rocky walls of the Underdark, eventually also gaining sharp teeth used to suck blood and other nutrients, the ability to echolocate and gaining longer lifespans, to that of a human's. Balneum are typically socially awkward and just generally unadjusted to social life with all their time spent catching small game and hiding on rock walls.
Balneum Traits
Being able to climb allows you to get into advantageous positions and set up ambushes. Maybe not as much as wings would but they are still remarkably effective.Ability Score Increase
Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You have a climbing speed of 30 feet if you are not wearing heavy armor, and if you have a free hand.
Echolocation
Accustomed to life underground, you are able to sense the area in close proximity to you. Additionally, a number of times up to your proficiency bonus, you can use a bonus action to let out a chirp and sonar your surroundings in a 20ft cube, revealing all creatures in a 20ft cube not behind 3/4 or total cover (including creatures who are invisible or hidden through other magical means)
You regain all uses of this feature when you finish a long rest.
Fangs
You are considered proficient with your fangs.
You can use your bat fangs as a natural weapon to make an attack a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.
You regain all uses of your fangs at the end of a short or long rest.
