Homebrew Bean-sidhe Species Details

Betwixt and Between

Historically associated within the Realms as “a spiteful creature formed from the spirit of a female elf,” the bean-sidhe is instead the manifestation of an elf woman’s spirit that is positioned somewhere in-between life and death.  Transformed into something completely new, they are neither one thing or another, the bean-sidhe has no memory of their past but also lives with a semblance of their former life.  This may explain why they are seen traveling, living day to day going through the motions, seeking the familiar in the life of an adventurer.

Unfinished Business

Heartache or exhilaration of their previous life, lingers in their soul in this second chance before the hereafter. Journeying the world more muscle than emotional or intellectual memory, the gods and goddesses use this for their own benefit.  Mission from god, a personal vendetta, or an unfulfilled oath drives them ever forward, the reason just out of the reach of thought.

Favored or Hindered

Bean-sidhe are either favored or hindered. 

Looked upon under a holy light the devout followers of a deity are granted the favor of being aware of their predicament by the nagging inkling of something that has been left undone.  With a soul in turmoil, others are hindered and unaware that their condition is due to a war over their soul.

Favored

Usually in the form of a beautiful woman, the favored bean-sidhe is confident and accepting as they push forward hoping to please their god, seeking their embrace in the afterlife.

Deific Magic. Your deity has granted you access to the following spells, using Charisma as your spell casting ability, once per Long Rest.  You can always cast Thaumaturgy.

1st: Vicious Mockery Cantrip, 3rd: False Life, 5th: Blur

Hindered

Appearing as weathered mature looking woman these bean-sidhe are mournful and dismissive, and are consigned to their fate. They treat adventuring as a means of ending their suffering.

Wail

As an action, you can produce a loud resonating scream. When you scream, each creature within 10’ of you must make a Wisdom saving throw or take psychic damage.  DC for this saving throw equals 10 + your Charisma modifier.  On a failure, each creature takes 1d6 + your Charisma modifier damage. This damage increases to 2d6 at 6th, and 3d6 at 11th level. Starting at 6th level a creature that fails its saving throw is Frightened until the end of its next turn. At 16th level, a creature is Incapacitated when it fails it's saving throw until the end of its next turn.  On a success, the creature only takes ½ damage.

After using your wail, you cannot use it again until you complete a Long Rest.

Bean-sidhe Traits

Your bean-sidhe character has the following traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increase by 2. In addition, one ability score based on your Origin increases by 1.

Age

Bean-sidhe are the age they were in their past life and do not age.

Alignment

With scarce and faded memories of this world, bean-sidhe fluctuate between choosing to acknowledge or ignore them. They are chaotic, lingering between good and neutral.

Size

Bean-sidhe share the size they were prior to their transformation, Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Ethereal Step

Youre footing in the material plane has taken on a preternatural quality you are unhindered by nonmagical difficult terrain.

Languages

You maintain your ability to speak, read, and write Common and Elvish.
