Homebrew Awakened Cat Species Details
"Here, kitty, kitty kitty!" I called out. I'd seen what I believed to be an average stray at the time. Her fur was white as snow, and she looked at me with piercing blue eyes. There was an unusual intellect behind those eyes, I thought. The cat came over, gratefully lapping up the milk I'd set out. Once she was finished, the cat looked up at me and said, "Thank you very much... but please never call me 'kitty' again. It's terribly demeaning."
Awakened Cats are creatures that have, one way or another, stumbled across a magical energy that gave them the gift of intelligence. While they are still the small, furry animal you can find as a familiar or house pet, they have the ability to communicate, learn, and fight.
Awakened Cat Traits
Awakened Cats have the following characteristics:Night Vision
Cats are traditionally nocturnal hunters. As a result, they can see up to 120 feet even in the darkest conditions.
Ability Score Modifiers
Cats are naturally dexterous. As a result, you can add 2 to dexterity. Due to their advanced intellect, add 1 to intelligence.
Ancient Hunter
These creatures are natural predators, and their awakened kin are no exception. As an action, an Awakened Cat can use a Bite or a Claw attack. A bite deals 1d6 + DEX modifier, and a claw deals 1d4 + DEX modifier.
At level five, both attacks are boosted up by one die level. Ie.) Bite becomes 1d8.
Curiosity
As we all know, cats are experts at reaching places that they're not supposed to. They can use their dexterity to jump instead of strength.
Telepathy
Awakened cats communicate telepathically, but they must be able to see who they are "talking" to.
Spellcasting
Awakened Cats are highly magical beings. If your character is a spellcaster, they follow a different set of rules for casting spells.
Verbal: The cat uses different hisses, purrs, or meows depending of the spell. Somatic: They must have a tail or paw available to do the various "gestures." Material: This one really depends on the DM. Whether they have to shuffle through their bags or pouches with their mouth and pull things out, or just use minor telekinesis... They can get the materials they need.
Spellbooks: If your character requires a spellbook, the book can just hover in front of them. Once again, this depends on you and the DM.
Languages
Cats can learn one language of your choice and can speak with other cats, both big and small.
Movement
Cats can move 30 feet waking, and can climb 30 feet as well.
