Homebrew Dhampir Species Details

Dhampirs are the children of Mortals and Vampires. The mortal need not be human, but this is the most common occurrence. Dhampirs are visually tied to their vampiric heritage, sporting pale grey skin and blood-red eyes. Their hair tends to be jet black or stark white, depending on the vampire parent, and all sport sharpened fangs. Dhampirs do not need blood to live, but drinking it can heal their wounds, and stir the craving within them. Dhampirs lend themselves towards chaotic natures, as the evil in their blood stirs them away from the laws of men. Many fall to an evil nature, but it is not uncommon for them to hold up causes for good. The human blood gives the Dhampir an amount of control over their lives that is not allowed to most undead.

Dhampir Traits

Bloodlust, Ensanguinate, Sunlight Sensitivity, Superior Darkvision, Undead Blood, Fangs

Sunlight Sensitivity

While a Vampire would burn and perish in direct sunlight, your human parentage prevents you from suffering the full effects of the curse. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight. While in direct sunlight, you experience light much more sensitively than a normal human, and everything appears extremely bright and washed out. You are nearly blinded, and can only make out vague shapes during the daytime. Your skin is also extremely susceptible to the light, and your skin will redden and blister if exposed for too long.

Superior Darkvision

Being partially undead allows you to see exceptionally well in the dark, giving you darkvision with a radius of 120 ft. You can see long distances in the darkness and in dim light, and can even make out some muted colors even in the darkest of places.

Exsanguinate

Blood is not a requirement of being a Dhampir, unlike a Vampires need for it to sustain itself. However, Dhampirs both have the ability, and sometimes the desire, to use their fangs to drain blood from their victims. By plunging their fangs into the neck a living being and drinking their blood, Dhampirs can heal their bodily injuries. As a bonus action after using a fang attack, you may heal equal to the damage dealt plus your constitution modifier.

Innate Spellcasting

Vampires are well known for their ability to sway the minds of mortals and instill terror in them. As a Dhampir, you have a limited use of these same abilities. Once per long rest, you may cast Charm Person or Fear on a single target. You gain Charm Person at first level and Fear at fifth level. The Spell DC for these spells is determined by your charisma modifier, as they come from the suave and sultry nature of your Vampiric parent.

Bloodlust

Dhampirs often fall prey to their own desire for human blood. While it is possible to reign in the thirst for blood, repeated exposure to blood causes the thirst to build and eventually become uncontrollable. Whenever a Dhampir comes into contact with mortal blood, they gain a point of bloodlust. This can be after personally killing an enemy, or using the Exsanguinate ability. You have bloodlust points equal to your wisdom modifier +  1. When all Bloodlust points are used, you go into a frenzy and cannot control your desire for blood. While in this frenzy, you move at the DM's discretion, attacking the nearest creature and attempting to drink its blood. While in the frenzy, you may only use your natural bite attack. You are in the Frenzy for 1d4 turns. During each turn, you make a wisdom saving throw of a DC of 13. On a success, you are able to direct your frenzy. If you succeed your random attacks can only target your enemies. If you fail, you will target the nearest creatures, regardless of friend or foe, and could potentially attack your allies or party.

Languages

Your Human patronage allows you to speak the common tongue, and the diversity of Dhampir upbringings allows for infinite options on what else you may have learned to speak growing up. You know common and one other language of your choice.

Ability Score Increase

Your Vampiric Heritage lends you a surreal unnatural grace, Increasing your Dexterity score by 2. It also affords you the silver tongue and charming eyes of your parentage, increasing your Charisma by 1.

Fangs

Your fangs are a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to ld6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
