Homebrew Vocwel Species Details
Introducing Vocwel
With much unknown surrounding them, the Vocwel's home planet was destroyed rendering them universal wanderers. In a universe where realities converge the Vocwel stand as remarkable beings, distinct from any other creatures born of nature. They were once creatures born from three worlds past, before a great black void sucked them through a mix of darkness and void mixing and reforming there heritage. The first Vocwel stone eggs were born in the ashes of there old world, embodying a perfect balance between life and death. While asleep, they are stone-like, resembling crafted gargoyles, as if shaped by the very laws of the cosmos itself. Over the long wait the first born Vocwel came to be. There form odd and deformed. Over time they spread out and reached the prime material plane of your world and among many other worlds. Spread out and endangered - The Choice is you're how you play it out.
They carry the regal majesty of dragons, typically moving on all four limbs with the delicate beauty of avian creatures, shining like beautiful birds despite their inability to fly they however can glide somewhat to help with falling but they do not have much wing strength.
The Vocwel are also marvels of adaptability their traits evolve with their environment as they age. Their talons can become as hard as swords, and their muscles strengthen from the energies of the dense forests or plains they traverse growing larger and larger. This remarkable adaptability not only showcases their connection to the creative forces of nature but also deepens the mystery surrounding them, inviting all who encounter them to wonder and smile.
The Vocwel make their home in any planes as they are a homeless species that have lost their world and are looking for a new home, playing a vocwel mean you are playing a race that is just lost and confused. You can talk to you're DM how and when you arrived to your world.
Vocwel - Feathers
The Vocwel possess a bounty of feathers that is both ethereal and awe-inspiring, Their feathers change depending on the environment taking on the elegance that takes in the beauty of the world around them. Some Vocwel can spout rainbow and radiant feathers like that of a peacock, or some might stick to a normal monotone color, but there feathers are also based on gender. The males will sport more flamboyant colors while the females remain more colorless. The males also tend to grow feather crests or breasts of feathers and more feather Ploof that allows them to try and attract a mate. Each movement of the body will also move the feathers in a way to either help with speed or to help with a blend of significance that helps their quest to get a mate.
Vocwel - Language
In Vocwel culture, talking isn’t the only way to communicate. They have a special dance called Volmda that combines body movements, sign language, and a few spoken words. This dance isn’t just for fun—it’s a way for Vocwel to share their feelings and thoughts deeply. Every little move they make has a big meaning, showing what’s in their hearts.
While dancing with a Vocwel might seem cool, it’s better to watch from the sidelines. Their dance, Volmda, isn’t just about moving around—it’s a complex way of talking packed with lots of feelings and traditions. If you don’t understand it well, you could accidentally upset them or disrespect their culture.

"So there I was, busting out my slickest break dance moves in front of the Vocwel. And what do they do? They decide it's time to break me in half! Talk about a dance-off gone horribly wrong." - A Sad Bard
- "Imagine this, I waltz into this swanky Vocwel ball like I'm the main act. I'm grooving like there's no tomorrow, feeling smoother than a stick of butter. Out of nowhere, this hefty Vocwel lady starts eyeing me like I'm the catch of the day. And then she drops the bombshell.... she wants to make eggs together! I mean, I have no clue what I did or said to impress her, but apparently, my dance moves are her ticket to motherhood. Talk about a plot twist!" - A Groovy Wizard
- "So, I'm playing chess with a Vocwel, and just when I think I've got him cornered, he tells me we're actually playing his version. Turns out, in his game, kings can teleport! Last time I challenge a cosmic chess master. Also why did he put his butt feathers in my face." - A Bamboozled Rogue
- "I tried to sell a Vocwel some of my finest ale. He sips it, nods, and says, 'Cute, but it lacks the essence of a black hole.' I mean, how do you brew with that?" - A Perplexed Dwarf Brewer

- "Last time I invited a Vocwel to a song night, she sang a 'brief' tune from her youth. Four hours later, we're still on the first verse, and she's not even winded!" - A Weary Bard
- "Asked a Vocwel how to make a love elixir. He suggests mixing the essence of a nebula with moonlight, 'filtered through the rings of life for best results.' Back to the drawing board for me." - A Perplexed Alchemist
Vocwel Cultural Integration
In a world not their own, the Vocwel, a rare and endangered race, find solace and purpose. Without vast societies of their own, they gently weave their existence into the fabric of other communities or embrace the quietude of solitude. Each Vocwel carries with them a deep respect for order and lawfulness, principles that shine through whether they mingle with other cultures or walk alone.
Vocwel Names
In Vocwel culture, names are like performances, showing their connection to the stars through sound and movement. Each name tells a story, seen through gestures.
For example, male Vocwel names, like Lunastra, meaning "moon warrior," are shown with gentle, flowing movements, symbolizing strength and elegance.
Note - Males are more feminine and are also more colorful with more feathers and flamboyant features that add to their name.
Meanwhile, female names, like Aurelia, meaning "golden shield," are depicted with strong, bold motions, representing toughness and power.
Note - Females are more masculine and are generally more colorless and boast more scales and horns than the males. Females are also larger than males.
The naming dance is really important to the Vocwel. It shows who they are and what they do. If someone says a name wrong, the Vocwel might gently show them the right way with their movements. But if it keeps happening, it could make them sad because names are a big deal to them.

Wing-Arms
The Vocwel possess unique wing-arms instead of a second pair of arms. You will gain two tool proficiencies of your choice.
Falling damage is reduced by half.
Quadrupedal Body and scales
The Vocwel, with their distinct physiology, cannot wear traditional armor like many other races as they are quadrupedal. Instead of armor, Vocwel prefer to embellish themselves with ornate jewelry and finely crafted adornments that reflect their individual personalities and rich cultural heritage. Wearing standard humaniod armor does not provide Vocwel with any increase in Armor Class - Vocwel need to have special armor made for them. It is up to the dm to figure out how much extra vocwel armor costs and if it is good for them to wear.
Vocwel Instead will wear Jewelry, fine crafted adornments and Bracers magical and what not. (Talk to your dm to figure out how armor and you can work)
Given their inability to don traditional armor, Vocwel benefit from a natural armor class from there scales and feathers that are rock hard.
