Homebrew Demi Fae Species Details

Few know the true origin of the Fae. Some believe they're the result of an ancient curse or blessing, while others think they came to our world from beyond the stars, or even our reality. Regardless, any who gaze upon them can tell they're not a natural race from the material plain, but they also lack the aura of creatures from the Feywild. They are so rare many beings go their entire lives without meeting a Fae, even elves with their extensive lifespan. Fae rarely reproduce, and when they do there is a high chance the child will be a human, even if the parents are both Fae. This could be the cause of their scarcity. Fae tend to live in the wild or mountains to avoid interacting with those who may be hostile to them due to their unfamiliarity.

Not Quite Human

Fae share physical traits with both elves and human. They possess an ethereal beauty similar to the elves but have human skin tones and hair colours. They also usually possess pointed ears and elongated canines, though this is not always the case.

Feared and Persecuted

Most Fae feel as though they are not welcome in civilised society due to their unfamiliar hybrid appearance and strange aura. As a result many spend their lives on the fringe of society in the wild or in mountain caves. Those who do venture into settlements can be found in small towns or villages where they're accepted and sheltered by the community, but rarely ever in large cities where they can face persecution and fearful looks from the inhabitants.

Names

Fae share names with many races, depending on who they are raised or named by, most commonly human, elven or fey names.

Ability Score Increase

Your ability scores each increase by 1.

Age

Despìte their mystical nature, most Fae are merely more physically able humans. However, legends tell of Fae who have achieved levels of immortality.

Size

Same as humans

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. Fae typically learn the languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects. They are fond of sprinkling their speech with words borrowed from other tongues: Orc curses, Elvish musical expressions, Dwarvish military phrases, and so on.

Dark vision

You see 60ft in dim light as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light.

Magic affinity

You have an advantage to magical attack rolls and you roll an extra 1d6 to damage when rolling damage dice for spell attacks. (This damage takes the form of the spells damage type, and if the spell has multiple damage types you decide which type this 1d6 is).

Weakness to iron

Creatures in pure iron armour are immune to your magic, and you have disadvantage against creatures in partial iron armour.

Form change

You now have the ability to change between your human form and fae form. When in your fae form your ears become pointed and face becomes more feral. While in your fae form you gain +3 to hit any moving target or a target at range and can ignore partial cover.

You also gain advantage on any ability checks involving keen sight or smell while in your fae form.
