Homebrew Demigod Species Details

Demigods, also known as half-bloods, are a race that are half- mortal and half-god. They are the direct result of a god and a mortal having a child together; the mortal is usually a human,
but they can be of any race. Many influencial figures throughout history are demigods, as they tend to be destined for greatness - or to cause great suffering.

Demigod Traits

Demigods share certain traits based on their lineage and connection to the gods, but are still greatly varied.

Ability Score Increase

Increase one ability score by 2 and increase a different one by 1.

Superhuman Strength

Demigods are stronger than mortals. Even without any formal training, they are capable of holding their body weight without much strain, and can cleave through monster hides with their chosen weapon. Depending on their parentage, natural mass, and level of conditioning; certain demigods are stronger than others. You gain proficiency in Athletics and when considering carrying capacity count your size as one larger.

Superhuman Speed

Demigods are faster than mortals. Quick on their toes, demigods are capable of keeping up, and even outpacing the monsters that routinely chases them. In course with their coordination, and reflexes, they can ordinarily keep up with most supernatural beings without being blindsided. You gain +10 walking speed.

Superhuman Agility

Demigods are more agile than mortals. No matter their physical record, all demigods are innately gifted athletes, able to perform dexterous maneuvers astounding for their age and size. Their coordination is stellar, and are capable of outmaneuvering monsters and other supernatural beings. You gain proficiency in Athletics and a +10 to climbing speed.

Superhuman Senses

Diagnosed as ADHD by mortal science, demigods are graced with reflexes that are the stuff of legends; being the main contribution to their continued survival. While their senses are not animalistically acute in nature, they are more in tune with the world around them; allowing them to pick up on details a mortal cannot. Demigods are innately alert to any hint of the supernatural, and can predict foreboding danger. Co-sided with their agility and senses, demigods are capable of processing, and responding to immediate danger in their vicinity. You gain proficiency in Perception and Dodge can be taken as a bonus action.

Superhuman Stamina

Demigods possess more endurance than mortals. They are able to handle the rigors of exhaustion, and physical pain with much more grit. Discomfort is routine for them, and they are able to fight well and retain a full, clear-minded focus; even if they are wounded, famished, and ridden of sleep. You gain +10 to swimming speed and reduce your Exhaustion level by one.

Superhuman Durability

Demigods are more resilient than mortals; able to survive assaults that would be fatal for a human. Demigods can endure various punishment: such as falls from great heights, magical projections, and even a direct blow from supernatural beings with only minimal injury. But they are not invulnerable. You gain +1 to AC.

Superhuman Recuperation

While they don't necessarily have a 'healing factor' per se, demigods boast a nimble recovery process. With appropriate medical supervision, demigods can bounce back on their feet in only a matter of days, to weeks depending on their injuries. Demigods are also more resistant to disease and ailments, though not immune. You gain the action Recuperate and resistance to Poison.

Monster Scent

Once a Demigod reaches their early teens (or the non-human equivalent,) they release a scent that some monsters are able to detect. The strength of this scent varies depending on the strength of the godly parent; a minor deity's scent is more muted, but the scent of the Big Three gods - Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades - is much stronger. This scent can be masked through various ways, but once a demigod learns that they are descended from a god, it is much harder to control. The Mist shrouds these monsters from most mortals, but they will stalk their prey until they are destroyed. That is why there are various safe havens created for demigods to be brought to, where they can live in peace among one another. Many demigods have no knowledge of their lineage until they are attacked, which makes for a very jarring transition. Some demigods do choose to leave their safe haven and live in the mortal world for part or all of the year, but it can be very dangerous to do so.
