Homebrew Archangel Species Details
Archangels are beings of pure Celestial Energy. Their origins vary depending on the individual. Some having been forged in the stars for the sole purpose of guarding the worlds from the darkness outside of it, others however, are individuals chosen by the Gods to be guardians, who were trained as a mortal to wield the Holy Light. This is a training that, if you are not strong enough, can at the very least drive you mad, or worse destroy you entirely. Those who survive this training with their minds in tact are allowed to experience the Ascension. This classification is known as The Ascended, and are the Archangels most commonly seen in the world, though most will choose to join their brothers and sisters in the Holy Guard.
An Ascended Archangel will retain physical traits of their initial mortal form, (an elf will still be angular and slender with pointed ears, a human will still be rounder with a thicker build and no pointed ears) however they will grow a pair of strong wings in a color that matches their true alignment. (Pure white = Lawful good Pitch black = chaotic evil Grey = True Neutral) Each wing is usually one and a half times the length of the Archangels body resulting in a wing span three times the Archangels height( a 6 ft tall Archangel would have individual wings that are 9 feet long and a wing span of 18 ft)
A Star Forged Archangel will have a standard Height of 6 to 9 ft and a corresponding wing span, they will resemble a human who would be from the region of the worlds that this Archangel was created to protect, having white translucent skin, glowing eyes, silver hair and their wings will be Pure white every time.
When Archangels are found on the physical plane, traveling and protecting many of them choose to disguise themselves, hiding their wings underneath heavy cloaks. Mostly being Ascended Archangels they are familiar with the ways of the world those Archangels would have an easier time blending into society, many would even take up the familiar role of Adventurer, giving them the ability to travel and pursue the protection of the worlds against darkness. The Star Forged will be much more similar to a new Construct, not fully understanding the standard communication patterns of people. It is often that these Star Forged will simply wander individually until they find some form of temple to take residence as a priest.
Archangel Traits
Your Archangel character has a variety of natural and supernatural abilities, the result of hundreds of thousands of years of Holy refinement.Ability Score Increase
Your Strength score increases by 2. Choose Charisma or Constitution to increase by 1.
Graceful Form
You have mastered the skills of Acrobatics and Athletics, you gain proficiency in both.
Angelic Wings
Your Character has wings that individually are 1.5 times your height, resulting in a wing span 3 times your height. Those wings also offer a bonus of 2 AC to you or anyone shielded by them. To shield a player will take one Bonus Action
Divine Resistance
You have resistance to necrotic damage and radiant damage. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.
Radiant Holy Light
You are a being of pure light, that light emits from your body in a very helpful way, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 80 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. Anyone within a 10 ft radius of you will also receive Darkvision inside that radius due to your radiant light.
Sacred Trance
Angels don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
During your Trance if you so choose you may roll for a perception check (DC 12 for familiar territories, DC 17 for strange territories) to use your Astral form to project your consciousness out and search the area surrounding you for anything of note.
Size
Archangels are tall and athletic in appearance, they are most often 6 to 9 feet in height and weighing in at 200 to 500 lbs.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 35 feet. You also have flying speed thanks to your wings of 45 Ft.
Age
Archangels, are technically an Immortal being and as such they do not age, although after traveling the worlds an Archangel may choose to release their Holy Light and return to a Mortal form being subject to the ageing process from that point on that they would being whatever race they resembled.
Alignment
Archangels being creatures of Holy Light are stereotypically Lawful Good, However an Ascended Archangel will still have their alignment prior to Ascension, this is possible due to them being chosen to become an Archangel by a deity they served in their mortal life. Fallen Archangels are Archangels who gave into the darkness and corruption that they fought every day, causing them to loose their connection to the Holy Light. Fallen Archangels are more often evil than not.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common, Celestial and one other language of your choice. As an Ascended Archangel you may also choose to know the Language that is native to your race prior to Ascension.
