Homebrew Augur Elf Species Details

Augur Elves were created via the selective breeding and genetic augmentation of Predemancers; magicians who can manipulate fate itself. Augur Elves are imbued with, down to the genetic coding, a prophecy at birth. This prophecy is seemingly unbreakable and one that fully controls an inevitable destiny of the elf the moment they're born.

The prophecies themselves are usually extremely vague, but can be read by certain Predemancers and beings that can see across time or read magical properties, which could give the elf a better indication of the life they'll head to.

  • Lifespans: Augur Elves live a surprisingly short length for being elves; usually Augur Elves live to be 100 or so, with some living up to 150.
  • Height/Weight: Augur Elves vary in height as drastically as normal elves.

Augur Elf Traits

Your augur elf character has a variety of natural abilities and unnatural abilities, the result of your prophecy.

Harbinging Reverie

  1. When taking a short or long rest, once per week, you may spend a minute with your eyes closed. If you spend the full time with your eyes closed you receive an omen in the form of wording floating by you about the results of a specific course of action that you plan to take within the next 24 hours. The DM chooses from the following possible omens:
    • Weal, for good results
    • Woe, for bad results
    • Weal and woe, for both good and bad results
    • Nothing, for results that aren't especially good or bad
This doesn't take into account any possible circumstances that might change the outcome, such as the casting of additional spells or the loss or gain of a companion. If you fail to keep your eyes closed, you're instead blasted with difficult-to-understand thoughts and abstract concepts.

  2.  Up to thrice per short or long rest, whenever you make an ability check, you can reroll the check twice; the DM then chooses 1 of the 3 rolls. The highest roll if it is integral for the prophecy to stand, the middle if its unimportant to the prophecy, and the lowest if the prophecy would prefer for your character to fail.

Age

  • Lifespans: Augur Elves live a surprisingly short length for being elves; usually Augur Elves live to be 100 or so, with some living up to 150.

Size

Elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance

Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.
