Homebrew AshBorne Species Details
No Two Exactly Alike
The AshBorne are a curious race of humanoids. They range from small to medium, with body types ranging from halflingesque to Orcish frames. The hew of their skin seems dependent on the environment in which they live. A tribe of AshBorne living deep within the woods will look nothing like an AshBorne dwelling by the sea. It is not uncommon for AshBorne to have horns, bark, foliage, mushrooms, moss, or even rocks growing from their bodies, again, depending on where they dwell. It is rumored that removing an AshBorne from their tribe and their home would cause their appearance to naturally shift, though there has been no conclusive evidence of this theory.
Well Guarded Secrets
Because of how private and secretive the AshBorne are of their rituals and lifestyles, there is not much known about their tribes. From how long they live to how they reproduce (some say they don't) the world at large have never really been able to figure out much at all about them.
Living In Mist
The Ashborne, regardless of tribal differences, all have one thing in common: they all live wherever one might best view the moonfog and still find the cover of darkness during the day. They are not UNABLE to live in the sun, they just have no love for it. When searching for the AshBorne, or maybe if not, you know you are drawing near to their tribe when you come across a thick iridescent mist hanging in the air. This mist can cause light-headedness, confusion, memory loss, hallucinations, and just get you good and lost in general. The Mists are thought to be created by the AshBorne themselves and they appear unaffected by it.
AshBorne Traits
Mind FogAsh Burst
You are naturally able to use Misty Step
Eyes of Maori
Upon meeting someone for the first time, the AshBorne may decide how much of the interaction (if any) the stranger is able to recall. They are also known to be able to manipulate memories to an extent provided that the person in question is not actively attempting to retain that information. The less familiar a person is, the more likely an AshBorne will be able to alter their interactions in the person's mind.
At the DM's discretion, but a wisdom save may block this effect and any race immune to charm spells may also have dampened affects if any at all.
Dance of Maori's Veil
Once a night, when in the light of the moon, you can use 10 minutes to summon the mists of Maori. This mist can cause light-headedness, confusion, memory loss, hallucinations, and just get you good and lost in general. You may designate up to 10 people to not be affected by the fog which lasts until pierced by the light of day or until they are dispelled.
This fog covers 30ft per Ashborne taking part in the ritual and is usually performed by tribe elders to hide their homes. In these instances, fog extends for miles.

Age
It is unknown how long the AshBorne lifespan actually is, because each AshBorne seems to live at their own pace. There have been AshBorne who have lived centuries as children, never reaching adulthood until well into the next Millenia, while others meet elderhood after only ten short years. While this phenomena baffles the few who have attempted to study this tribe, it is not something that seems to disturb the AshBorne at all. Mortality does not seem to bother the AshBorne. When they die, they crumble into Ash and are scattered. They believe that their ashes are re-awakened in the light of Maori and they will be reborn. Whether this is true or not is widely debated.
