Homebrew Vulkin Species Details

The Vulkin are a unique race, they appear to look like a normal human, elf or halfling but they have a secret. The Vulkin have the soul of a animal inside them, it may have been a loved pet before but now they are with their owner forever. The Vulkin have unique traits because of this, they can have any combination of spectral claws, teeth, tail(s), eyes and/or ears. Often they are shunned mistreated or exiled because people are usually afraid of them and what they could do. Most Vulkin live on the outskirts because of the awful amount of racism, some might try to hide their spectral traits, but none have been able to do it forever. They tend to gravitate to forests, grasslands or caves, to suit their primal instincts. But alas they do come out of hiding occasionally and into society, usually as hunters or adventures. Sometimes they encounter each other, and when they do they can start to create a colony if they find more. A colony a Vulkin is often very small anywhere between 4-12, but there is one massive colony not known to any other race aside from the forest gnomes, it is called Vulkintopia. There is 50 Vulkin that currently live there and it slowly gets bigger. The forest gnomes is so far the only race to show kindness to the Vulkin and they wish to pay back. But they also want to live elsewhere in society but everyone else hates or fears them. Maybe if they build up a reputation together, they might stop getting mistreated and can live wherever they want. 

Vulkin Traits

The Vulkin have a variety of spectral traits they can choose, claws, teeth, tail(s), eyes and/or ears. Each of these provide a unique advantage.

Spectral Traits

Each Vulkin can have a few different spectral traits to choose from claws, teeth, tail(s), eyes and/or ears. You may choose a trait at level 1, 4 and 8. You can also choose the colour of your Spectral Traits, the colour can be any colour other than black.

Claws give a bonus of +1d4 slashing damage to unarmed strike dice increase at level 3 to 2d4, 6 to 3d4, 10 to 5d4 and 15 to 7d4.                                                                                            Teeth give a bite attack that does 1d4 piercing damage dice increase at levels 3 to 2d4, 7 to 3d4, 11 to 4d4 and 17 to 5d4.                                                                                                        Tail(s) allow you to do a trip attack with them as a bonus action. You may choose any amount of tails from 1-10.                                                                                                                           Eyes give increased eye sight, advantage to perception rolls  also better Darkvision 90 ft.                                                                                                                                                                     Ears give an increased hearing range they also make you hear everything louder.

Animal Soul

Choose between a Fox, Wolf, Cat, Rabbit, Feret, Dog or Raccoon for the appearance of your Spectral Traits. THIS SERVES NO PURPOSE OTHER THAN COSMETIC AND ROLEPLAY.  

Sly Nature

The Vulkin are naturally sly creatures and have a +1 to Dexterity  

Darkvision

You can see in darkness (shades of gray) up to 60 ft. If you have the Spectral Eyes trait Darkvision increases to 90 ft.
