Homebrew Dactyl Species Details

Brawny and thick-haired, his hands calloused and his eyes always keen for glint of ore, Basalt stood half as tall as Penacles, but never had Penacles felt quite so small. Dactyls-- as one of the favored peoples of Purphoros and sole residents of Mt. Velus (with the exception of the dragon, Thraxes)-- shortened in size due to their generations spent mining and forging in narrow caverns and passageways but grew in presence and pride.

Penacles watched his companion in a mix of awe and disgust as Basalt grumbled and chewed loudly around a loaf of stale bread as he worked. Dactyls cared for their work, and food was simply fuel, after all. This was his workshop, and it contained a bewildering miscellany of tools: hammers, chisels, saws, lockpicks, tinted lenses, jeweler;s loupes, and jars of powdered and shredded ingredients for forging armor and weapons.

Dactyl Traits

Your Dactyl character has certain characteristics in common with gnomes and humans.

Heart of Stone

Hard work and dedication to your lineage and craft have honed your body, but living outside of other social climates has dampened your understanding of the world and the people in it.

Unstoppable Force, Immovable Object

Due to generations of manual labor in the mountains, Dactyls have developed strong, burly bodies-- as if forged from the very iron they mine.

Excavator

Once per short rest, twice per long rest (or 4 hours per excavation), you may attempt to mine or dig for resources. Roll a d20 and report your answer to the DM to see what you found. (Resource Table available to DM)
