Homebrew Xolotan Species Details
Xolotans are fey that take the shape of humanoid axolotls. They stand from 3 to 5 feet tall and can weigh anywhere form 30 to 80 pounds. Xolotans tend to live in or near large bodies of fresh water or damp caves. When out of water they tend to carry decanters of endless water to prevents themselves form drying out. They have soft bodies that range from a pale pink-ish white to a mottled brown. They have frills that surround their heads helping them sense their environments in murky waters. In addition to this they have an incredible healing factor which allows then to regenerate limbs and heal any damage sustained in combat or day to day life. Anyone who sees them would tell you how adorable they are and how happy and accepting Xolotans are.

Speed
Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.

You can breathe air and water.
Axolotl Magic
Axolotl have an innate magical ability to influence water. You know the shape water cantrip.
Nocturnal Nature
When you take a long rest, you appear inert, but remain conscious and aware of your surroundings. You can see and hear as normal in this state.
Regeneration
Xolotan have an incredible healing factor that they have learned to control. At the start of your turn you can regain hit points by expending up to half your hit dice (rounded down) as if you were taking a short rest. (no action required). You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, all uses recharge on a long rest. You must be conscious to use this ability. If you are stable but not conscious you can use this ability but it takes 1d4 rounds to take effect. In addition to this you are immune to disease.
Sensitive Frills
Xolotan use the feather like frills that surround their heads to sense their environments. You have 15 feet of blind sight and while underwater you have advantage on Wisdom (survival) and Wisdom (perception) checks.
Water Dependency
If you fail to immerse yourself in water for at least 1 hour during a day, you suffer 1 level of exhaustion at the end of that day. You can recover from this exhaustion only through magic or by immersing yourself in water for at least 1 hour.
Languages
You speak, read, and write Common, Sylvan, and one additional language of your choice. This language typically has some connection to one of the areas or cultures that has been part of your life.
Xolotan (Axolotl)
Xolotan who live in relatively shallow bodies of fresh water.
Xolotan (Olm)
Olms are a subspecies of Xolotan that have adapted to living in caves and deeper waters. They have adapted to living without light and have evolved grater swimming abilities.
Cave Dwelling
Because of Olm's deep sea adaptations they have gained the following abilities:
Superior Darkvision. Olms have 120 feet of darkvision
Sunlight Sensitivity. While in direct sunlight Olms have disadvantage on Wisdom (perception) checks.
Limbless
Due to a a lack of needing to walk, Olms hind legs were lost and were replaced with long tails. Because of this Olms have the following features.
Water Dwelling. Olms have a minus 5 to their walking speed and a plus 10 to their swim speed.
Long Tails. You have advantage on checks to initiate and escape a grapple.
