Homebrew Daelsyni Species Details

‘Look to the heavens, friends! May your songs and rhymes meet the ears of all ascended souls’

- Daedalus Morningrose, 3040 FES

Daelsyni can either be the child of an angel and humanoid or a child with ancestors blessed for their virtuous deeds. Touched by the grace of Mount Daeleceste, they often resemble the angels of those heavenly realms in a small way – though their general form is that of a human or another humanoid species. Their skin tones are typically pastel shades of green, magenta, or blue, while their eyes and hair are pure white. The nails of a daelsyni shine with gold or silver but reduce to ash when cut. On occasion, a daelsyni may also sport horns.

Blessed Children

The word ‘daelsyni’ does not belong to a particular language, being a tapestry of angelic, diabolical, and elvish words, but in the common tongue it loosely translates to ‘child of Daeleceste’. This accurately describes the nature of a daelsyni; though all mortal creatures can trace their origins to some god or another, daelsyni are the direct result of angelic intervention. Should an angel be brought to the material world, it may choose to romance a humanoid and birth a child with it – though it’s unlikely that the angel will be able to stay outside Mount Daeleceste long enough to be an active parent. Nevertheless, it is said that a daelsyni’s angelic parent will watch their spawn from their distant home plane, hoping that their god will allow them further entry into the realm.

Daelsyni may also come about through a divine blessing. Great heroes who have carried out extraordinary service to a god may receive an inkling of the god’s power with a child blessed in their deity’s name. Consequently, daelsyni children are resistant to ailment and may have greater sorcerous potential. This has led some to believe that daelsyni are inherently destined for greatness, but such a view is erroneous; daelsyni have all the sapience of other humanoids, being capable of both right and wrong.

Shapers of Culture

Though it is typical for a daelsyni to seek out others of its kind, they are both incredibly rare and more celebrated than oppressed – meaning that there has never been a majority-daelsyni society, at least not on record. This is in contrast to their hellfolk counterparts, who often seek each other out and band together for protection. Daelsyni have never seen the need to create their own equivalent of the Sanaizza Dynasty (though it’s not unlikely that the idea has crossed some daelsyni minds before).

Rather, daelsyni often become important pillars of wherever they are raised, based on in no small part the expectations placed upon them and the reverence given to them. A small municipality or remote village may raise a daelsyni child collectively, taking care not to be without gratitude for what the gods have given them. Daelsyni raised in most larger settlements will have an easier time rising through the ranks than most, in a similar way to how dragonkin are more respected in the Draconic Commonwealth by birth alone.

Heroes, Poets, and Tyrants

Many great paladins have been daelsyni, with the especially proactive angels of Arcalle bedding many a cleric of the goddess. Though it takes a great toll on Arcalle to have so many angels pass into the material world, the main reason as to why this is much rarer nowadays, the morale boost daelsyni children bring to her followers greatly aids the maintenance of her domains. However, the most famous daelsyni devoted to Arcalle was not a paladin but a warlock; Ridwan Agassi, who famously mediated a resolution between the great Linipod army and Fathanis, entered a pact with his angelic father to serve Arcalle.

The most well-known daelsyni of modern times would be Daedalus Morningrose. Daedalus is a great bard known throughout the continent for his plays and poems – someone who is also said to derive from an angel of Arcalle. On the other hand, Jophiel Duskener is a more maligned daelsyni figure. She serves as the high paladin of Uzugal, but many devotes claim that she is more loyal to the Commonwealth’s goals than her god.
