Homebrew Skykid Species Details
Such a small thing, this child. So small that you would believe that they are a child. With a flap of their wings, they soar the skies in wonder and with their little hands and little feet, they travel across forgotten memories. They cherish us, we who have destroyed the kingdom, and they use our memories to help their kin. They fulfill our wishes while holding the hand of their closest and listen to our stories to soothe our minds. And when the time comes, they face great darkness to save us from destruction.
Being of Light
Skykids are from the stars high above, and seeing one of them fall from the sky is said to bring good luck as many mistook them for shooting stars. They are thought to be angels at first by the people who first saw them land after falling from the sky, but people soon realized that they're just children and ended up adopting them and given the nickname Star Children by the first few people who encountered them for the first time. Their appearance looked like a child with light brown clothes, a brown cape with one star, and a short haircut tied in front with a bundle of longer hair. Their mask has pure light filling up the eye holes, but when taken off, their eyes are closed, begging the question of whether these kids are blind or can see differently. It surprised everyone when they learned that the Skykids' clothes, cape, and hair are made out of light, and they can change their appearance at will and yet, their body is like a smooth clay statue; some even speculate if they're a new kind of shapeshifters.
Skykids have a red candle that functions as their 'heart' stored in their chest and appeared as a small light circle on them, they can take it out with ease, and with no indication of pain. The candle works as if it's a regular candle and Skykids used it to reveal their appearance to other Skykids by lighting each other candles as they tend to appear grey and featureless aside from the basic outfit, a cape, and the stars on their cape. This appearance is only noticeable for Skykids alone.
It's common to see them using various designs of capes to store the extra light that they use to fly; it's uncommon to see a Skykid having wings instead of the commonly seen capes as it can easily mistake them as an Aasimar. The capes or wings prevent any Skykids to fall to their death as it makes them float down instead of immediately falling down (No fall damages).
Grouping
Surprisingly, Skykids have their way to group other Skykids uniquely:
- Ikemen
Usually reserved for any Skykids who has a teen height (Medium) who looks fashionable with clothes that aren't available at mass anymore with a hairstyle that is said to come from their Gods in the starry sky, some use a special mask to shrink themselves down to Chibi size until they switch cover to return to their normal height. - Chibi
A toddler-sized (Small) Skykid who is fast at running and swimming also managed to phase into the ground, wall, or any solid objects. - Veteran
Skykids older than most, commonly the first ones who fell from the sky are called these by other Skykids. - Moth
A Skykid who fall from the sky and is new to the surrounding, usually a Veteran or experienced Skykid adopts Moths until they're old enough to explore independently. Many retired Veterans own big housing for Moths until they're ready to live independently.
Many Skykids lives as a massive group consisting of 10 to 35 kids in a communal housing or small community; it's not rare to see a Chibi piggybacking other Skykids who are taller and bigger than they are, causing a very confusing scene to anyone who sees them.
Naming Culture
"What do you mean by some child named you?"
"A child wandered to the forest and decided they wanted to befriend me and gave me a name."
"Does the child know that not how things work, right?"
"They just kept honking and offering me a single candle stick."
"Wait, what that's honking sound?"
"That child has found us!"
Death and Reborn
Once a Skykid dies from any sort of injuries, they have to venture up to where their Gods resided to give a bundle of candles offering before being reborn. It can take from one day up to several days, depending on the severity of the injuries. Many Skykids who have been reborn several times have scar markings on their skin from their previous injuries. Veterans found that applying clay and wrapping it with either cloth or bandages to the injured areas can heal their bodies, only if the clay is left to harden properly. This clay technique is useful for Moths who have just learned how to fly and keep crashlanding or crashing onto a hard surface. When a Skykid permanently die from their injuries, their body will lost all of their features (hair, capes, accessories, any outfits reverts back to their moth outfit) and turned into a statue with visible cracks and dark crystal growing from them from lack of light, another Skykid may give their light to the statue but it only let them ascend to where their Gods reside and not reviving them.
If a Skykid ever gets their red candle extinguished, they have to immediately find a fire source to re-lit their candle or else they'll enter a stasis state where they temporarily become a normal statue until someone re-lit their candle.
Wing Buffs
Skykids gain wing buffs as they grow in experience (Level Up), a Skykid stop being addressed as a Moth when they gained at least 8 to 10 wings. These wing buffs let the Skykids fly higher and further but at certain limit of how many stars they have on their capes. Once all the stars on their capes got depleted from using the buffs, they need to rest near any fire source or hold another Skykid hand to rechange.
