Homebrew Dovahkiin Species Details

The Dovahkiin are legendary beings with the blood and soul of dragons, capable of harnessing the power of the Thu'um, or dragon shouts. These individuals are often marked by a strong sense of destiny, exhibiting great physical prowess and resilience. Known for their ability to exhale destructive energy and resist elemental damage, they are both revered and feared across the land. Dovahkiin live extended lives and frequently find themselves at the center of great conflicts and quests, embodying the might and mystery of their draconic heritage. Dovahkiin mature at the same rate as humans but can live significantly longer, often reaching up to 150 years due to their draconic heritage. Dovahkiin can be of any alignment, though many lean towards a strong sense of personal destiny and greatness, which can manifest in various moral and ethical perspectives. You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.

Draconic Ancestry:
You have draconic heritage that manifests in various ways. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table (like the Dragonborn in the Player's Handbook). This determines the damage type for your Breath Weapon and Damage Resistance traits.

Breath Weapon:
You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your Draconic Ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your Draconic Ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can't use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Damage Resistance:
You have resistance to the damage type associated with your Draconic Ancestry.

Dragon Shouts (Thu'um):
You know the Unrelenting Force (Fus Ro Dah) shout. You can use this shout as an action. When you use it, each creature in a 15-foot cone must make a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, a creature takes 2d6 force damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn’t pushed. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Dragonsoul:
You can absorb the essence of slain dragons to fuel your powers. Once per day, when you slay a dragon, you regain one use of your Dragon Shouts (Thu'um) and one spell slot if you have any spellcasting abilities.
