Homebrew Abyssal Axolotl Species Details

The Abyssal Axolotl comes from the Shadowfell or other realms that share the same qualities of the Shadowfell. These creatures were typically held as pets by those of high regard and royalty, but many of them can also be found in the wild, typically in wetter areas. The ones that somehow find themselves outside of the Shadowfell will suddenly find themselves with a newfound intelligence, and the ability to walk on two legs. Typically Abyssal Axolotl when they acquire their intelligence, find themselves becoming Wizards or just people of high intelligence such as Historians or Astrologers.

Bite Attack

You bite a creature with your many many teeth, dealing 1d4 + your dexterity modifier.

Ability Score Increase

You dexterity increases by 2, and your intelligence increases by 1.

Age

Young Abyssal Axolotl age quickly, reaching maturity at the age of 8. The lifespan of the Abyssal Axolotl is around 70-80 years.

Size

Abyssal Axolotl are typically smaller in size compared to humans, ranging from 4'5 to 5'5. Your size can either be Small or Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet. You have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.

Breath Weapon

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your breath weapon takes form as a line of 15ft. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 5d6 at 6th level, 7d6 at 11th level, and 8d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
