Homebrew Celestial Dragon Species Details

An ancient race, these beautiful beings serve as the protectors of places precious to them, or requested by others. Worshiped by many and feared by some, they rule the area around them. The dragons deal with problems differently depending on their ideology. They know of their duties, and fulfill them with utmost respect. Their mere presence sends most intelligent beings fleeing at first sight.

Biology

You take the form of a long snake, with small claws near your front and back. These claws have long talons, with a pattern usually found on the palms. Starting at the rear, your tail has ornamental features, but can also be used to attack. Moving up, there are intricate patterns detailed along your hardened scales protecting you from harm. Approaching the head, a hardened material forms a fluffy looking shape, right behind your horns. The horns are massive, forming shapes like a tree or deer horns. Moving to the face, you have large glowing eyes, seeing through all things. The snout is large, with a line of sharp teeth inside the mouth. Protruding from the snout are two large flowing whisker like appendages. Depending on the dragon’s origins, its color may change. Ranging from bright reds, to somber blues, they vary in color. The dragon also lives for extremely long periods of time, sometimes for thousands of years, and as a byproduct of this and their massive size, they must consume large amounts of food. These dragons harbor massive amounts of elemental energy. Upon death, their blood is highly toxic, as it reacts with the environment, with the body no longer alive to maintain it. This can also cause a very explosive side effect on death, blowing up most of the body in a massive explosion.

Culture and Ideology 

The dragons are very noble and powerful creatures choosing to protect those it has promised to protect, to those that require protection, or to those it loves. Many beings worship the dragons, hailing them as beloved and graceful protectors, and the dragons do take it lightly. They withhold the values set by them or by those who they serve. Most dragons prefer to live solo, claiming an area for both them and their mate. However, sometimes territorial clashes will occur. These clashes usually are resolved with diplomacy, however, sometimes the conflict will escalate. These clashes could last days, years, or decades. The spots of the most serious clashes may have large traces of elemental energy, leaving extreme areas. If a dragon is defeated in combat to another dragons hand, they will resort to a deal, usually in the winners favor. The dragons usually have connections to gods, carrying out their decree, yet they will never carry out an act that requires unnecessary slaughter or death, maintaining a moral code. Most dragons follow the lawful good alignment, with some leaning towards lawful neutral.

Age

Celestial Dragons live for many years, growing up to around 1000 years. They reach maturity at age 34.

You may select a celestial ancestry from which your dragon descends from. This determines the damage from your celestial weapon and color. Select from the table.

Celestial Weapon

Unleash the celestial energy hidden within your body, shooting a beam of elemental power from your mouth dealing 3d8 damage, corresponding to the color chosen, half as much damage on a success. The save also corresponds to the color. The DC for the save is equal to 8 + con modifier + your proficiency bonus. The damage increases to 4d8 at 6th, 5d8 at 11th, and 6d8 at 16th.. you have two charges, recharging every long rest.

Spectral weapons

Due to your very short arms, wielding weapons in your arms is somewhat problematic. However, you have devised a solution to this: spectral weapons. By performing a 1 hour ritual, you may convert any weapon to a spectral weapon, with the size being agreed on by both dm and player. This spectral weapon can attack anywhere around you within 10 feet. Attacking with the spectral weapon rolls to hit like a normal weapon, and follows the standard weapon damage. However, you are unable to use a bow and arrow, or other weapons of the sort.

Toughened Scales

You cannot wear armor, unless it is specially fitted for you, but your natural armor is increased. Your AC increases by 4.

Fang and Tail

You have large teeth, and a large tail that can be used for combat. In place of an unarmed strike, you may use an attack with your teeth (piercing) or tail (bludgeoning) to deal 1d6 damage+your con modifier of the respective damage.
