Homebrew Bjornir Species Details

     The bearfolk of Xerxus, known as Bjornir, are a proud and ancient race with a rich history. They believe they were shaped by the primal spirits of the land, embodying the strength and resilience of bears. The Bjornir are known for their strong communal bonds and respect for nature, which is reflected in their harmonious way of life. They thrive in the fields and forest patches of Xerxus. 

     Bjornir society is organized into clans, each led by a chieftain and a council of elders. Their communities are mostly matriarchal with their men being their warriors. Clans are often named after significant natural landmarks or revered ancestors. The Bjornir value strength, wisdom, and community, with each clan member playing a vital role in the well-being of their people.

     The Bjornir hold a deep spiritual connection to the natural world. They believe in the Great Bear Spirit, a divine entity representing strength, protection, and wisdom. Rituals and festivals are conducted to honor the spirits, seek their guidance, and celebrate the changing seasons. A notable tradition among the Bjornir is the Rite of the Bear, a coming-of-age ceremony where young Bjornir prove their strength, bravery, and wisdom. Successful completion of the rite marks the transition from adolescence to adulthood and earns the respect of their clan.

     Bjornir's are extremely similar to bears, large in size stature and plump. Their clothes often cover only the bare minimum, their thick fur comes in blacks, browns, grays and whites. They have thick claws and sharp teeth.

Bjornirs are distinguished by their size and stature, along with their sharp teeth and claws.

Age

Bjornin reach Maturity after about 5 years and live anywhere from 60-70 years, though some have notably made it to 90. 

Climber's Claws

Your claws and strength are perfectly made for climbing trees and mountain scapes. You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.

Predatory Instincts

You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill, along with this you may choose whether you gain proficiency in the survival skill or the perception skill.

Bear's Aura

Your bearlike stature grants you advantage against saving throws against being frightened.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Natural Weapons

Your claws and fangs are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you can deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Growl

As a bonus action, you can snarl at a creature. A creatures of your choice within 20 feet of you that can hear you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of you until the end of your next turn. The DC of the save equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
