Homebrew Alicorn Species Details

 

They say the act of creating these creatures is depraved, even evil, but it's hard to deny that they're a beautiful species, for good or ill.

Hailing from the divine plane of Arborea, Equestrians come in a vast array of appearances, each an ideal of beauty despite their monstrous natures.

Long ago the goddess of beauty and the sun named Celestia created a race of angels to spread her word among mortal-kind. These angels took a similar visage to her own and were known to be among the most beautiful creatures of Arborea. It was so they descended to the Material Plane. Being capable of shapeshifting, they easily passed as prophets or bards during their travels. Some of these angels bore new life by mothers and fathers. Through this process the Alicorns were born. Celestia saw the new race her angels had spawned and smiled at their beauty. The Alicorns were welcomed to Arborea with open arms by the goddess.

Beasts of Beauty

Alicorns, the result of a mortal and an Arborean angel, these beings are beautiful to an almost unnatural degree, sharing traits of both their mortal and divine parentage, and taking a shape and nature that suits their personal ideal of beauty. Immense in size, they're powerful beings who drift between the Material Plane and Arborea. The Alicorns parentage is heavily varied among the paranormal creatures of Arborea, though most can be easily identified by their impressively imposing stature and impressive, thick curves of their bodies. 

 

While they do understand the concepts of genders, Alicorns are predominantly-feminine hermaphrodites and it’s uncommon for them to even identify one way or another. Those who do can be picked out easily, with ones who identify as female retracting their ‘masculine equipment’ when not intentionally using it, while ‘males’ will leave themselves hanging out wide open.

Forms Beyond Freedom

Alicorns take many, vastly varied appearances, despite sharing very similar body builds. Many colors of the rainbow are the palette their bodies are painted in, vast variances in the shapes and number of horns and wings and tails, though Equine appears to be the most common, due to the density of unicorn and pegasus and thestral parentage. These, along with many other factors, can result in their appearances being so heavily varied that one might not realize they’re speaking with an Alicorn unless they looked for unifying details such as their immense size and hypersexual physiques. 

 

From their wings taking the shape of long and feathery, to short and stubby, insectoid, or even mechanical in appearance. They often have horns varied in shape and number, from the ubiquitous Narwhal-like long, spiraled unicorn horn, to sharp, curved tiefling-esque horns, or sometimes even a blending of them.

Divine Passions And Powers

Alicorns have immense arcane energy in their very souls, in due to their divine nature. Their Mage Hand for example, takes on a semi-amorphous aura of a vibrant color tightly associated with the Alicorn in question. Likewise, those who don’t have wings or horns will find them forming from this same aura when wielding magic or flying.

 

When Alicorns are forced to wear armor, it’s not uncommon for their innate magic to adapt its shape and form to better suit them, assuming large enough armor can even be found. A common recurring design for this armor is a tight-fitting silken cuirass with minimal visible metal, the armor compressed to cup the bosom and protect the crotch more than anything. Though, custom-built armor for them isn’t subject to these changes.

Wanderlust

Much like their progenitors, Alicorns possess a curiosity and will which drives them to see the world. Their reasoning is as numerous as the forms they take. They might feel the need to seek fortune or entertainment. They may wish to depose tyrants. They may even seek to bring hope and pleasures to the people of the world as their parents did before them.

Alicorn Names and Ethnicities

A recurring factor with Alicorns is an odd desire to slot each other into particular groups based on visual traits, a quirk oft shared by humans, though there is no clear malicious intent behind this strange segregation so much as a desire to keep track of things.

Some commonly seen categories include: Pegasi, for those with physical, feathered wings, Unicorns for those with natural horns, Kirin for those with heavily draconic traits, Thestrals for darker, bat or demon-like appearances, and changelings for insect-like specimens.

Names, meanwhile, are so vast in optios that most opt for Common-language words or phrases that match nicely with their innate behavior. Such examples include but are not limited to: Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity Belle, Rainbow Dash, Nightmare Moon, Princess Luna, Cozy Glow, radiant Glow, Fire Eclipse, and so on.

Alicorn Traits

Alicorns are astounding races, so here's what's somewhat standard among them all.

Skyclad

Alicorns, while 'skyclad', or nude in other terms, or at least when wearing the absolute minimum, have Advantage on Persuasion, Intimidation, and Deception skills.

Telekinetic Grasp

Alicorns have an innate telekinetic ability, very similar to the Mage Hand spell. They're able to form a number of these hands by a thought equal to the sum of their level and proficiency bonus at will. 

Natural Magus

Due to their inherently supernatural nature, Alicorns are able to cast certain spells as if they were second nature. This ties into their wide variety and unique nature and thus can cast certain cantrips or 1st level spells as Spell-Like Abilities innate to them. [I recommend being thematic with the choices] When creating an Alicorn, keep that in mind and you may select 3 Cantrips from any spell list, and 2 1st Level Spells that you may treat as if it was a cantrip. the number of times each can be used is equal to your Charisma modifier times your Proficiency bonus.

Ability Score Increase

As a big beautiful creature, your Constitution increases by 1, and your Charisma increases by 2.

Age

Alicorns reach maturity roughly around their early teens, however their lifespan is Indefinite, you are effectively immortal as far as time is concerned.

Size

Alicorns are massive creatures that hold themselves high, with thick, strong builds and an average height of twelve feet. You are Huge.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and your flying speed is identical.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and ether Sylvian or Celestial, depending on how much closer you are t your heritage.
