Corruption Points
A Demi-Angel gains Corruption Points (CP) when they commit acts considered sinful or when they are defeated by demonic, devilish, or particularly evil foes. These points represent the gradual erosion of their celestial purity and can lead to negative consequences.
Gaining Corruption Points
-
Sinful Acts: Committing certain acts will grant CP. Examples include:
- Minor Sin (1 CP): Telling a harmful lie, stealing, acting out of lust or envy.
- Moderate Sin (3 CP): Betraying an ally, causing harm out of anger or greed.
- Major Sin (5 CP): Committing murder, significant acts of cruelty or malice.
-
Defeat by Evil: If a Demi-Angel is defeated (reduced to 0 hit points) by a demon, devil, or any creature with an evil alignment, they gain 2 CP.

- Celestial Distress: You occasionally hear whispers of doubt and malice, giving you disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws against fear.
-
Moderate Corruption (10 CP):
- Weakened Resistance: Your resistance to radiant damage is halved (if you have it). You also gain vulnerability to necrotic damage.
- Dark Whispers: The whispers grow louder, and you have disadvantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks and saving throws against being charmed.
-
Major Corruption (15 CP):
- Broken Halo: Your radiant abilities, such as Radiant Burst or Aura of Purity, are weakened. Any damage or healing they provide is reduced by half.
- Celestial Torment: You have disadvantage on all Charisma-based skill checks. Additionally, you have a 10% chance to gain a level of exhaustion after completing a long rest.
-
Total Corruption (20 CP):
- Fallen Angel: Your celestial nature is entirely corrupted. You lose all celestial traits and abilities and gain the fiendish subtype. Your alignment shifts towards evil, and you become a creature of darkness, bound to the will of dark forces.
- Servant of Darkness: If you reach Total Corruption due to losing to a devil, you become a slave or pawn to that devil. Your will is subjugated, and you must follow their commands. This effect can only be broken by a powerful divine intervention or an extremely challenging redemption quest.
Servant of Darkness Details:
When you become a servant to a devil:
- Bound Will: You must follow the commands of the devil you are bound to. You can attempt to resist by making a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 10 + the devil’s Charisma modifier). On a success, you can act freely for 1d4 hours before needing to make the save again.
- Infernal Influence: The devil can communicate with you telepathically at any distance and can see through your eyes and hear through your ears.

- Major Good Act: Defeating a great evil, making a significant sacrifice for the greater good (reduces 5 CP).

Redemption from Total Corruption
Divine Redemption Quest
A fully corrupted Demi-Angel, now a Fallen Angel, can seek redemption through a monumental quest that tests their resolve, purity, and dedication to atonement.
-
Divine Revelation: The Fallen Angel must receive a vision or sign from a celestial being or deity offering a path to redemption. This might come through a powerful cleric, a celestial ally, or directly from a divine entity.
-
Purification Trials: The Fallen Angel must undertake a series of purification trials designed to cleanse their soul and prove their commitment to redemption. These trials should be incredibly difficult and could involve:
- Confronting Personal Demons: Facing manifestations of their past sins and overcoming them through acts of virtue and bravery.
- Self-Sacrifice: Making significant sacrifices for the greater good, such as giving up something of great personal value or enduring great pain and hardship to protect others.
- Holy Pilgrimage: Embarking on a journey to a sacred site of immense divine power. This pilgrimage would be fraught with dangers, both physical and spiritual.
- Redemption Battle: Defeating a powerful fiend or evil entity in combat, symbolizing their triumph over the darkness within.
-
Celestial Judgement: After completing the trials, the Demi-Angel must present themselves to a celestial tribunal or a high-ranking celestial being for judgement. This entity will evaluate their deeds and determine if they are worthy of redemption.
-
Final Atonement Ritual: If deemed worthy, the Fallen Angel must participate in a sacred ritual of atonement. This ritual might involve:
- Cleansing Ceremony: Bathing in holy water or standing within a circle of divine light while reciting prayers or vows of purity.
- Celestial Blessing: Receiving a blessing or touch from a celestial being, which burns away the remaining corruption and restores their celestial nature.
Mechanics of Redemption
- Quest Difficulty: The entire process should be incredibly challenging, requiring significant effort, sacrifice, and role-playing from the player.
- Partial Redemption: If the Fallen Angel partially completes the trials but fails the final judgement, they may reduce their Corruption Points but remain a Fallen Angel. They can attempt the trials again after a significant period.
- Full Redemption: Upon successful completion, the Demi-Angel is restored to their former celestial state, their CP reset to 0, and their abilities and traits returned. However, they might retain scars or reminders of their ordeal, which can add depth to their character.
Consequences of Failure
- Permanent Fall: If the Demi-Angel repeatedly fails the trials or refuses to seek redemption, they risk becoming permanently bound to their fallen state and serving as a pawn to their demonic master forever.
- Descent into Darkness: Continued evil acts or failure to seek redemption may result in further penalties or the character becoming an NPC under the DM's control, reflecting their complete descent into darkness.
