Overview

Chimera, literally translated from Old Common to mean "She-goat", is a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature. The most common kind of Chimera boasts the hindquarters of a large goat, the forequarters of a lion, and the leathery wings of a dragon, along with the heads of all three of those creatures. Though due to its artificial nature, Chimeras may include other animals in other combinations, such as: a lion, with the head of a goat protruding from its back, and a tail that ends with a snake's head.

History

Chimeras were created after mortals summoned Demogorgon to the world. The Prince of Demons, unimpressed with the creatures that surrounded it, transformed them into horrific, multi-headed monstrosities. This act gave rise to the first chimeras. Made through demonic influence, a Chimera serves as a grim reminder of what happens when demon princes find their way to the Material Plane.

The moniker of She-goat is theorized to have caught on as all Chimeras are female and most feature at least some parts of a goat.

Behavior

Wild Chimeras stake out a large territory that is often as wide as 10 miles. It preys on wild game as well as livestock, such as: feral horses, hyppogriphs, wyverns, cows and boars. When a Chimera finds a similarly aggressive creature in its territory, it'll stop all it is doing to either kill or chase away the trespasser.

When it hunts, the wild chimera will look for easy prey and often plays with its food to amuse itself. Although typically unintelligent, chimeras are self-aware creatures, with a limited capacity for language, often Draconic. Their dragon-like natures often led them to raid caravans crossing their territory for their treasure and to live solitary existences in caves, though some took after the lion and lived in prides. When a Chimera attracts the attention of a deity of a very powerful spellcaster, it might be turned into an Awakened Chimera. A creature that holds both ruthlessness and cunning close to itself.

All Chimeras have access to a vast array of abilities that vary from one individual to another. For instance, a chimera with a white dragon head would cast a breath of cold air, while one with the head of an ox could gore its target.

Quadruped Build

Due to your quadruped anatomy, you need to use all four legs to walk, while you can hold and manipulate objects when sitting down, you cannot do so during combat. You can hold weapons and other items with your mouth, you can only hold one one-handed weapon or shield at a time this way and while you do so you can't cast spells that require vocal components.

Due to your artificial nature, your body's form varies according to your creator's use for you. During character creation you must either roll 3d20 or choose three features listed below. Do note that features marked with a "*" are mutually exclusive to one another, meaning that you can only choose one marked feature.
