Homebrew Auchtarn Species Details
The Auchtarn are a people born specifically from the slave needs of dwarves, and toiled under them for centuries until a rebellion instigated by Okim Aiter and Graunschar “The Immoveable” Essass freed them. They now nearly entirely inhabit the once dwarven territories around the Lucidian Sea, keeping several hundred kilometers of barrier mountains between them and the new Dwarven settlements. Nearly permanently paranoid of external conquest, the Auchtarn have formed a new type of deeply centralized government with a strong military, and pushes towards developing tactics and armaments to counteract their lack of magical ability.
Appearance
Auchtarn resemble anthropomorphic German Shephards. They walk with digitigrade feet, and have full 5 fingered hands with opposable thumbs

Natural Tracker
As a bonus action, you may mark a suitable target that is either currently within 15ft of you and able to be smelled, or has left an article of clothing with you (target need not be present, or even be known to the player). While a target has been marked and is not present, the player is able to follow their scent trail and track them provided the trail is no longer than 48h old. If the target enters within 200ft of the player, they have disadvantage on all stealth checks to hide from the player and only the player, and the player has advantage on all perception/navigation checks to find the target and only the target. This effect lasts until dismissed, until concentration is lost (see concentration for spells) or one of the following happens:
- Target severs the scent trail by boarding a vehicle, teleporting, flying, or travelling to a different plane.
- Target polymorphs into a form which does not have a scent, ie elementals, most aberrations, etc. Polymorphing into an animal does not sever the scent trail!
- Trail expires after 48h. If you have a piece of clothing, you can re-smell it as often as you'd like to see if you pick up on anything
- Target somehow physically removes their scent.
- A different scent trail is concentrated upon.
Suitable targets include any Humanoids, Fiends, Fey, Giants, Dragons, or Celestials. Intelligent undead do not emit any signature smell, although they will be known to be undead.
