Homebrew Badgerfolk Species Details
Badgerfolk have the build of a man but the head, fur, and claws of a badger. They sometimes walk on four legs, and always when they are digging. When like this, they might be confused with a Giant Badger, but they almost always stand up once they realize someone is there. They live in hilly areas with dirt that is not too hard. They have homes called Setts in the ground with many tunnels connecting the spartan rooms. They typically live (within the tribes) solitary or as a pair. If they have cubs, they do their best to raise them, but do no more than that. Badgerfolk are organized into clans with a leader and some warriors (usually barbarians). They don't often appreciate finer things like music and art, but instead have their own equally satisfying, if simple, pleasures. Badgerfolk are territorial and have a very big temper once riled. Never engage in a fight with a Badgerfolk if you wish to remain unscathed, for they fight as if they were backed into a corner and battling an army and have nothing left to lose. Badgerfolk typically have strong strength and constitution scores and lower intelligence scores. That is not to say you can't have a smart Badgerfolk, just that the life they live doesn't often end up with too many intelligent Badgerfolk. Badgerfolk warriors favor the barbarian class, as the Badgerfolk have the wild ferocity of a badger in each of them. These creatures are very loyal and will never turn against their tribe. However, Badgerfolk do use the process of abandoning runts. They eat what they can find, mostly rodents and other small, furry mammals. Occasionally they will hunt larger prey which they are more inclined to share with the tribe. These include deer, boars and pigs, and the like. There are Badgerfolk who live alone, and these Badgerfolk are like all others except they have no tribe to be loyal to. Badgerfolk speak Common and understand all badgers, whether they are other Badgerfolk, Giant Badgers, or just regular Badgers. Badgerfolk have a feral nature and are hard pressed to be lawful. They tend towards neutral, but good and evil Badgerfolk are not uncommon. Badgerfolk are excellent diggers, and have sometimes been recruited by the other races in return for goods. They themselves use the bartering system in their society but use the precious metals they have unearthed when trading with other races.
