Homebrew Wardadillo Species Details
Small and cheerful
Bold and Cheerful, Wardadillos are highly talented artisans and performers, who travel the world spreading their typically down to earth, but cheerful, lifestyle. They also serve to help defend those who higher them. Wardadillos have some of the toughest characters to go with their extremely durable bodies. They tend to be around 2-3 feet tall and weigh around 60-90 lbs.
Wardadillian skin ranges from deep brown to a paler hue tinged with pink, but the most common shades are light brown or deep tan, like certain tones of earth. Their shells tend to have a more earthy tone.
Long Cheerful lives
Wardadillos can live to be around 200 years old, while typically living longer than humans, are far from the longest living races. While the young live with careless abandon for the first 30 years of their lives due to their naturally durable bodies, as they get older they keep their cheerful natures, aren't as careless but still are just as energetic. They love to experience what life has and spread the joy that comes with that however they see fit. Despite their long live, durable bodies and enduring minds, they value life greatly due to the history of their race. Especially the lives they have personally connected with deeply.
Wardadillos are as expansive and enduring like the desserts and mesas they love, weathering the passage of centuries with cheerful endurance and indescribable change. They respect the traditions of their tribes, tracing their ancestry back to the founding of their most ancient tribes in the youth of the world, and don’t abandon those traditions lightly. They cherish the bonds of family and friendship as well as the comforts of hearth and home, harboring few dreams of gold or glory. Part of those traditions is devotion to the gods of the performance and protection, who uphold the Wardadillos ideals of cheer, selflessness and devotion to the spread of life and joy.
Individual Wardadillos are determined and loyal, true to their word and decisive in action, sometimes to the point of stubbornness. Many Wardadillos have a strong sense of justice, and they are slow to forget wrongs they have suffered. They may not forget but are quick to forgive. A wrong done to one Wardadillo is a wrong done their tribes but unlike other races, the Wardadillos always try to deal with things diplomatically, preferring diplomacy to unnecessary violence. Wardadillos are easily moved to pity and hate to see any living thing suffer. They are generous, happily sharing what they have even in lean times.
Tribes
Wardadillos are a nomadic race that span entire continents. If a member were too break to many of they would be exiled from the tribe. They love the beauty and cheer of music and the numerous art forms the various cultures have to offer, and in some this love festers into avarice. Wardadillos are typically artisans, especially masons, musicians, and performers. Some become spys or bodyguards, highly sought after for their courage and loyalty. Wardadillos communities travel as a way of life, driving wagons or guiding boats from place to place and maintaining no permanent home.
Gods, Gold, Tribe and Joy
Wardadillos who take up the adventuring life might be motivated by a desire for treasure—for its own sake, for a specific purpose, for the sake of adventure, to spread joy through are, or even out of an altruistic desire to help others. Other are driven by the command or inspiration of a deity, a direct calling or simply a desire to bring glory to one of the gods. Tribe and ancestry are also important motivators. A might seek to restore a Tribes lost honor, avenge an ancient wrong the Tribe suffered, or earn a new place within the Tribe after having been exiled. Wardadillos usually set out on the adventurer’s path to defend their communities, support their friends, or explore a wide and wonder-filled world. For them, adventuring is less a career than an opportunity or sometimes a necessity.
Wardadillo Traits
These cheerful and strong willed, Wardadillos are some of the most durable of the races, with few being able to outlast them. They tend to be performers, artists or politicians.Hand combatant
Due to your anatomy, you are only able to effectively use simple weapons and crossbows. But your hands can be use as fairly effective weapons, dealing 1d4 slashing damage. The claws an your hands evolve as you grow stronger. This goes up to 1d6 at lvl 5, 1d8 at lvl 10, 1d10 at lvl 15 , and 1d12 at lvl 20. This is treated like a finesse weapon.
Lightning Resistance
Due to evolving in the same biome as Blue dragons, Shellards evolved a lightning resistance.
Danger sense
You have advantage on dex saving throws from affects you can see due to evolving in an extremely volatile environment,
Ability Score Increase
Your Dexterity increases by 1, Constitution score increases by 3, and your Charisma increases by 2.
Age
Shellards mature slightly faster than humans, and they’re considered young until they reach the age of 12. On average, they live about 70 years.
Size
Wardaadillos are 2-3 feet tall and weigh 60-90 pounds. A large portion of the weight comes from the shell
Speed
Your base walking speed is 45 feet. Due to your hulking weight and size, you are unable to take the dash action.
Shellard Magical Resilience
You have advantage on INT, and WIS saving throws from spells.
Shellard Charisma
You have half proficiency in the performance, deception and persuasion skills.
Natural Armor
ue to your shell and the shape of your body, you are ill-suited to wearing armor. Your shell provides ample protection, however; it provides you a base AC of 18 (your Dexterity modifier can't be added) You can’t wear light, medium, or heavy armor, but if you are using a shield, you can apply the shield’s bonus as normal. Unarmored defense and draconic resilience only applies the non dex stat, starting at level 7.
Shell Defense
- Shell Defense. You can roll into your shell as an action. Until you emerge, you gain a +4 bonus to AC, and you have advantage on Strength and Constitution saving throws. While in your shell, you are prone, your speed is 0 and can't increase, you have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws, you can't take reactions, and the only action you can take is a bonus action to emerge from your shell.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Dwarvish. Dwarvish is full of hard consonants and guttural sounds, and those characteristics spill over into whatever other language a dwarf might speak.
Superior durability
Shellards are highly resilient creatures that can hold up to many things. You gain proficiency in constitution saving throws, gain 2 additional hp points for every level.
