Homebrew Avian Species Details

Sequestered in high mountains atop tall trees, the Avian, evoke fear and displeasure. Many Avin, Although beliving the same as others, have unique traditions that are rather looked down on. 

They are tolerant but self-willed and take nothing from others.

Wings and Talons

Avians are often compared to other birdfolk but are much closer to normal humans in appearance. They could even pass for a human if it wasn't for their large wings. Standing upright, Avians are between 2 and 6 feet tall, and they have naturally skinnier bodies and are very light due to their hollow bones.

Feathers are found on the body but its usually only on the lags and arms and occasionally the back and neck. Their plumage typically has to do with where they are from and often look like other birds in the same area. Avians also have sharper teeth than a human and sharp almost talon like nails.

Tradition

Avians are often ostrisized for the way they worship the gods. Avian ceremonies often incorporate loud singing and dancing late at night. They wear ceremonial outfits that consist of animal masks and furs usually gifted at the age of 10 from family. Ceremonial outfits usually have associations to the receivers name, nickname, or personality. Such as someone with the name Kit might be given a fox mask and fur.

Avian Names

Avian names usually come from nature or greek mythology. They also tend to give nicknames especially to children.

An avian of either gender may have one of these names: Thrush, Icarus, Coyote, Tawny, Orpheus, Pandora, Lily, River, or Viper.

Backgrounds that are most appropriate for Avian include Acolyte, Folk hero, and Entertainer.

Avian Traits

As an Avian, you have certain traits in common with your people. Being able to fly at high speed starting at 1st level is exceptionally effective in certain circumstances and exceedingly dangerous in others.

Avian reach maturity by age 16. Avians usually live about the same as humans.

Most Avianare chaotic and lean towards neutral or good. But pick what fits best with your character.

Vians range from 2 feet to 7 feet tall. They have thin, lightweight bodies . Your size is either small or Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Flight

You have a flying speed of 50 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Talons

Your talons are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
