Homebrew Bruun Ur Species Details

The humanoid ursine of the thick and wild Agadal Woodland deep in the elven Halaran are a peace-loving, shamanistic and diplomatic bunch of bear-men, respected for their attunement to nature, their resolve in keeping the forests of Halaran, and those of the Empire, clean and intact and their innate ability to communicate with animals. For this purpose, a few exemplars have doubled their role in life as diplomats and politicians in the human courts, to bring favor towards their nature-abiding ways. Standing taller than most in the room and dressed in a mixture of clothing native to their homeland and the target destination, covered in brown wild fur showing evidence of a toughened life in an untamed, dangerous, green hellscape of a forest. Whilst most choose to remain in their verdant homes, seeing one or three in one's imperial lifetime is not unusual.

Despite their pacifistic natures, there are a great many dangers in the world that will not listen to reason, monster and humanoids alike. Therefore, a Bruun Ur can not be allowed to leave their green homes with the nativity that everyone is as kind as they are, for such a mindset in such dangerous a world is a sure way to end up buried early.

Diplomatic Intuition

The first thing Bruun Ur learn is that the best way to solve conflicts is with words and compromise. The second thing Bruun learn is that, sometimes, other people just can not seem to agree. But that will not stop a dedicated Bruun Ur from trying. This dedication to diplomacy and prosperity for all earned them the curiosity and respect of the elves who rule the forest they call home.

The elves allowed them the opportunity to learn civilized diplomacy and was shocked in awe as the Bruun Ur went above and beyond their expectations. As a reward and as preservation of their future potential, the elves successfully petitioned the Fae to gift the Bruun Ur with the ability to communicate effortlessly with the animal kingdom.

Furry Exterior, Wise Interior

Meeting a Bruun Ur for the first time is, for most folk, a confusing, deep and spiritual experience. At first sight, they bear the visage of a large bear-man-or-woman savage, but as soon as they open their mouth, they could not be more different from this initial thought. Having spent a life of woodland peace and argumentative discussion has left each racial member with a sense for conversation more intimate and intricate than most others are prepared for.

A home full of conversationalists, travels filled with interactions with interesting people, foreign cities of different cultures to appreciate. It is no wonder the Bruun Ur is considered one of the wisest races to walk the world.

Attuned to the Earth

The race as a whole has always had an unexplained, supernatural connection to the earth of the world, and to the elemental plane of earth itself. Perhaps a great earthern spirit took fancy to the steadfast nature of the folk, or maybe a Bruun Ur passed through an elemental gate and performed a great number of great deeds in the home of the earth elementals. Regardless of the reason, the Bruun Ur was at one point in their past infused with the ability to speak the language of this other plane.

This born affinity for the earth has induced a deep appreciation and wholehearted respect for the natural world and its elements, and the Bruun Ur seek not only to live in the grace of nature but to also protect it valiantly. While the folk are more than happy to mediate the trifles and troubles of other humanoids, their talent for speechcraft comes in full force when they defend the trees, the mountains, the fauna, the flora, the seas and the skies. They realize that the more forward-facing races require resources, but overconsumption and greed is the foremost enemy of the Bruun Ur. The balance must be preserved, and if they can not convince others of this, they will use force. Theirs and those of their numerous allies.
