Homebrew Celestial Species Details

Celestials are a magical people of otherworldly grace, in fact, they are quite otherworldly. They live in places of ethereal beauty, in the midst of the clouds, and mountaintops, where they build great homes and structures and statues, where soft music drifts through the air and gentle fragrances waft on the breeze. Celestials love nature and magic, art and artistry, music and poetry, and the good things of the world.

Otherworldly

Is not an understatement.

These beautiful creatures are taller than humans, going on about 6' - 7', yet they are light creatures, weighing only around 75 - 100 lb. Celestials' skin can glow in many shades of gold and silver, and their hair shines with a white, or gold light. Their eyes span in a range of colors, sometimes even multiple, they shine in a kaleidoscope of light.

Not quite untimely.

Celestials are not immortal,

But they get close. They become fully mature at age 190, and live to about 900 - 950 years old. After this they do not die, as humans, and other creatures know it, but they pass on to a different stage of their life. After their supposed 'death' no one really knows what happens to them, but we expect they travel far past the Forgotten Realms, the Material Plane, and what most creatures alive today know.

Diplomacy

is a trait that Celestials truly believe in.

Celestials are not quick to anger, they trust in diplomacy and compromise to resolve differences before they escalate to violence. They do not start many battles or wars, except for one, the War of the Seven, and when the need arises, Celestials can show a fierce side of themselves, and after years upon years of training, they can show great skill with sword, bow, and strategy.

Exploration and Adventure

Celestials love Adventuring.

Since they are so long-lived, they can enjoy centuries of exploration and discovery. They dislike the pace of the human race, constantly changing, fast and short, so they find careers that let them travel freely and set their own pace. Celestials also adventure sometimes, half-conscious, half-alive in other Planes, falling into deep trance, and growing their magical ability. 

Names:

Celestials' Names

Are determined by their personality, and often times, Celestial parents will name their children this way by combining words in their language to describe them. Like the elves, there is almost no difference between male and female Celestial names, and similar to humans, Celestials share a family name. The cause of this is when Celestials observe other race's lives, they tend to imitate, not necessarily stealing the idea, but more complimenting it, in a way.

Male Names:

• Raizel: Raizto is the Celestial word for King.
• Gavrel: Gavrel means youthful, yet wise
• Archon: An Archon is a piece of Celestial architecture that resembles a pillar of Light.

Female Names:

• Eladrin - Probably derived from the words: Elaldin, and Drintadin: Fire and Water.
• Mikea: Mikea is the word for Mist.
• Junai - Junto (YHUN - tow) and Naili together mean Thunder and lightning, similar to Eladrin.

Family Names (Translated): Gemflower, Moonwhisper, Silverfrond, Nightbreeze, Goldpetal.

 

Celestial Traits

Your elf character has a variety of natural abilities, the result of thousands of years of elven refinement.

Brilliant Light

You create a brilliant flash of light, and every creature in a ten foot radius takes 1d6 radiant damage.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom score increases by 2.

Age

Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.

Size

Elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Trance

Much like Elves, you don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Celestial. Celestial is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Celestial literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous, though few know how to sing them. Many bards learn their language so they can add Celestial ballads to their songs.
