Homebrew Coral fairy Species Details
Coral Fairies are a subspecies of normal fairies. After being chased out of their original habitat by elves, they eventually were forced to migrate into the water. Although this wasn’t an ideal habitat at the time, they grew to enjoy it, and eventually evolving traits to help them swim, and perform other actions in their new aquatic habitat. Some traits that Coral Fairies have are webbed talons, bioluminescence, and hydrodynamic wings, allowing for extreme speeds while swimming. Another unique feature, only being possessed by these fairies, is their unique singing. Their singing is able to put people to sleep for a short amount of time, allowing escape from much large predators. Coral Fairies are a tad bit larger in height than regular fairies, but also are more lean, allowing for faster movement. Weight is typically the same, although it does vary depending on the fairy.
Coral fairy Traits
Your species has many common traits with regular fairiesDark vision
Coral Fairies evolved to live deeper in the oceans. Although since the deeper you go, the darker it is, they learned and evolved to have dark vision, helping them see if a predator was coming, or if it was prey.
Bioluminescence
Without many things to help catch prey in the depths of the oceans, these fairies had to adapt and learn how to use their bioluminescence to attract prey to them. They always have had it, but since they controlled it, they almost never used it. Tone that they are constantly in the darkness of the oceanic depths, they must use it to survive in this new home.
Talons
Once Coral fairies reach adulthood, they grow talons on their feet, allowing for piercing damage and slashing damage to be dealt to creatures. These talons are extremely sharp, allowing the fairies to tear open the flesh of an animal. Sometimes, other species use their talons as small knives, usually used in artisan work.
