Homebrew ARTIGIN Species Details

Artigins are very similar to Warforged in terms of stats, inheriting benefits from the Warforged race much like how Minks inherit some from Kobolds.

ARTIGIN Traits

Your Artigin character has the following traits. A few of the traits give you a choice; consider how your choice reflects the purpose for which your character was built.

Ability Score Increase

Choose 2 ability scores to increase by +2 and by +1

Size

Your size is Medium. To set your height and weight randomly, start with rolling a size modifier:

Size modifier = 2d6

Height = 5 feet + 10 inches + your size modifier in inches

Weight in pounds = 270 + (4 × your size modifier)

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Constructed Resilience

You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits:

  • You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
  • You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You are immune to disease.
  • You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Artigins Rest

Depending on what your primary function is as an Artigin the actions you take during the rest action may change. When you take a long rest you go into what is essentially "Autopilot".

Example: If you are an Artigin constructed for cooking, you are likely to begin certain tasks as though you were cleaning and closing a restaurant like cleaning dishes, putting away leftover ingredients, etc. Or, if you are an Artigin loaded with warfare information, you are likely to enter a "Sentry" mode where you begin to march around the area you deem to be the area where you are resting. You can see and hear as normal, but the actions that your "Autopilot" may take will be either extremely blunt or very "to the point".

Programmed Protection

Your body has built-in defensive layers, which can be enhanced with armor:

You gain +1 AC

you are proficient with 2 armor types of your choice (I advise choosing armor that suits your programming)

You are only able to wear armor you have proficiency in. To gain proficiency in other armors it has to be directly written into your program through vague means.

Poor Programming

As you level up, your programming becomes increasingly more refined. At earlier levels, you are prone to "Malfunctions". These can typically happen randomly one day every 1-2 weeks if you are unlucky. During a malfunction, you perform random actions that are within your programming for around an hour until the malfunction ends.

Once you reach around level 4 or 5, your programming is fixed. Once your programming is fixed you may choose any skill to be proficient in. If you are not playing a sentient Artigin, this is the point in which they would typically reach sentience.

Faulty Language Database

As well as being able to speak Common, you inherit 2 languages; however, they are completely random. (meaning that the DM will get to choose them)

Workers by Design

You may choose 2 tools to be proficient in. If you are an Artigin loaded with combat data, you instead choose 1 tool and 1 weapon.
