Homebrew Bloodborn Species Details
The Curse of Hunger
The magic of the disease transformed them into creatures close to undead. They share a few traits with other creatures from the grave, as their resistance to poison and necromantic magic doesn't seem to have a strong grip on their lifeforce.
But the magic also left them with a strong hunger for blood and violence. They feel a compulsion toward killing other living creatures they see. They call this their curse. Young Bloodborn receive training to strengthen their will against this compulsion and when a Bloodborn overcomes this urge for violence he is considered adult and is also allowed to leave their secluded cloister communities.
Seclusion
The Bloodborn live in very secretive and secluded communities lead by a council of the oldest members. They stay away from human, elven, dwarven or other humanoid settlements out of fear the curse of hunger could well up again. They know they cannot spread their curse, but all descendants of a Bloodborn are Bloodborns as well, as their curse is a dominant gene.
Intimidating Appearance
The changes to the Bloodborn were not simply internal. The magic also changed their appearance. Most Bloodborn have very pale, sometimes pure white or even grey skin. They also tend to have very colorless eyes, like for albinos, where the red of blood shines through. These are features shared among all the communities, but members of a Bloodborn community share traits with one another. These traits seem to come from certain undead creatures. The Drainer Bloodborn, for example, have vampire-like fangs and their ears tend to be slightly elongated like those of bats.
