Homebrew Tyrinkar Species Details

"I was always intrigued by the Planes of existence. But not the ones close to our Material Plane. Rather, my interest was held by those beyond our reach. In particular, the plane referred to as "The Far Realm". As they do amongst Wizards, rumours about the place were aplenty. But one, learned from the patron of a Warlock I once knew, caught my attention. Apparently, the Elves once reached The Far Realm. But that world was destroyed, alongside it's portal.

Now, clear to me that accessing this Far Realm wasn't an option, I instead searched the Planes I knew were safe for passage to this lost world, in the hopes that maybe I could strike a deal with some being and collect some books from those Elves that had perished. As I searched, I spent less and less time in the Material Plane. But it was on one of these breaks, one of my moments of respite, that my saviour came. A Cleric, bearing a sigil of a blank scroll, had come to my door. She handed me a book, saying she had been commanded to give to me.

Within its covers, a treasure trove of rituals and signs used by the foolish elves to reach the Far Realm. As I worked to translate the tome into a multitude of languages, so it may be shared with my fellows and studied, I realised that one portal only reached near the Far Realm. Overcome with joy, reason left my mind. I made the necessary arrangements, and what came through was beautiful, some angelic creature, bringing more with it. They stood tall and proud, and spoke very clearly. They now fly around my house, reading my books and examining my maps. I wouldn't mind, if I could the close the portal again. But they just kept coming..."

Winged Servitors of a long forgotten God, they have come to the Material Plane to escape the horrors of the Far Realm.

Servants of Old

Created by an ancient God, the Tyrinkar served as Messengers, delivering notes and scrolls to devoted clerics in the Material Plane. But as the God faded from the popularity of Mortals, its power faded and the Tyrinkar gained sentience. Realising that they had been made for servitude, they revolted against the dying God, but its power was still too great and they were cast out to the Far Realm. After a few millennia, they managed to escape to Sigil upon a stray energy from the Far Realm, and there they remained until a Wizard mistook a collection of Sylvan characters for those that meant "Far Realm". Noting the opportunity to return to the Material Plane, they leapt through the ensuing portal, collecting as much information as they could on what had transpired in the Material World. As the Centuries have passed, they managed to integrate with society but still choose to live in the depths of dungeons, which many scholars believe may be located above old Temples to the God they once served.

Kind but Lethal

Whilst the Tyrinkar have a tendency toward being Lawful Good, their natural wings and agility has made them sought after by guilds. Whilst in service of these guilds, Tyrinkar have a tendency to draw nearer to a Chaotic alignment. The few that decide to live amongst mortals can be found in Temples, working as messengers for pilgrims. Standing straight and with good posture, an incredibly small number are hired as Butlers to Nobles, using their flight to clean hard-to-reach places or just personally delivering messages to friends. However, creatures that live deep underground are not used to such beacons of etiquette, rather they have to deal with Tyrinkar bandits, who swarm caverns and steal as much as they can in the few minutes they attack for.

Tyrinkar Names

Whilst their true names are unpronounceable to mortal tongues, they do keep "Material Names", names far easier to articulate for those who call the Material Plane home.

Male Tyrinkar Material Names: Thracthin, Koujimar, Hintargun, Barsouve, Cremargun, Whurmintoo, Groustarno, Quertifour

Female Tyrinkar Material Names: Sloumat, Palmar, Xinkurphun, Lenturmac, Joupla, Darbandu, Varquin, Filcantra

Tyrinkar Traits

Whilst the God who made them allowed some slight variation between specimens, they all share some basic features.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma Score increases by 1, and your Dexterity Score increases by 2.

Age

Whilst the original Tyrinkar were created mature, the later generations were created naturally and so have lived through adolescence, which last until they are 6 years old. From then on, they are considered mature until they reach old age, which starts at 460. They die of old age at 500, with no variation in timing, their death being exactly 500 years after their birth to the second.

Alignment

The majority of Tyrinkar are Lawful Good, but can vary anywhere on the Alignment Table, with very few every being Chaotic Evil.

Size

Their body shape is based largely on Half-elves, and so they share their Height and Weight. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your walking speed is 25 Feet, and your wings allow a fly speed of 15 Feet. When travelling large distances, you can use fly speed rather than walking speed for up to 4 hours. Whilst travelling in this way, you only become Surprised by enemies who launch a ranged attack (Magical or Non-magical), creatures who can also fly, or creatures of Gargantuan size.

Angelic Wings

Whilst you cannot Hover, your wings can aid you upon collision with the ground. When you have fallen 20 Feet or more, at any falling speed, pick one of the two following:

A) Land standing rather than prone, and roll 1d20. Reduce any Bludgeoning Damage from the fall by the result.

B) Land prone, but roll xd4, where "x" is every 10 Feet you have fallen that turn (rounded down). You deal Thunder Damage equal to the result in a 20 Feet sphere of where you land.

Residents of the Far Realm

All Tyrinkar harbour memories of the Far Realm, etched into their instincts by the strange energies that flow through it. As such, the Tyrinkar are immune to negative effects caused by entering or leaving another plane of existence.

Experienced with the Planes

Their experience travelling the planes has given the Tyrinkar the ability to interact with them more naturally than most other species. At 12th Level, you learn "Contact Other Plane", at 15th you learn "Plane Shift", and at 18th you learn "Demiplane". These Spells require a spell slot to be used, but do not count against your "Spells Known".

Languages

You can read, write and speak Common and Sylvan
