Homebrew Crystalyn Species Details
Crystalline Creatures
Crystalyn are only slightly taller than humans, standing on average at 6 feet tall. Their proportions and limbs look similar to those of most humanoid creatures, but often most resemble humans. Their crystal skin can come in numerous shades and colors, though the most common of which being an aquamarine hue.
A Rocky Start
Crystalyn were discovered at the turn of the millennium when a small group of them emerged from the depths of the planet known as Saquiros, a mining colony in the deep recesses of space. They were discovered during a dig for mana crystals, as they were known then. They were hesitant of the non-crystalline beings at first, but warmed to them quickly due to their ancient desire to seek out and understand the unknown. Once the beings of the planet discovered what the crystals from the Crystalyn were capable of, they were collected and harvested until the initial group had been completely destroyed. Thus, the eons-long hunt began. Very few still exist today, and are often wanderers that hide their appearance from those who would wish to harvest them.
Natural Scholars
Due to the vast and complex magic-array that composes the Crystalyn‘s brain functions, they are naturally capable of learning and retaining information for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. However, those who remain severed from the outside for extended periods tend to have their minds fog over time, making recalling information difficult.
The Crystalyn that manage to thrive whilst disguised amongst those of their host planets are often teachers, scientists, of high-class mages, with an unquenchable need for knowledge. Despite the lack of need for food, drink, sleep, or breath, the Crystalyn get a “craving” for knowledge if kept from it. They are typically non-violent in nature, but have been known to hold grudges against individuals to bloodlines if mistreated or imprisoned.
