Homebrew Anura Species Details

The Anura were once a single race of humanoid amphibians that split into the Ranidae and the Bufo when a small group of the former ditched their semi-aquatic lifestyle and moved farther inland. They are froglike in appearance and start their lives as fully aquatic, proving problematic for the Bufo in settlements with little water.

The Bufo tend to live in the towns and cities of other races with only a few settlements of their own while the Ranidae live mostly in cities of their own making since they have to be near water and include sizable underwater structures. The Ranidae tend to stick to themselves spare the occasional explorers, traders and adventurers though they are always very welcoming and curious about outsiders. The Bufo on the other hand, tend to stick to themselves and are very hardy and industrial, finding jobs and use for their services anywhere they go, albeit requiring extra commendations for their offspring that most cities willing provide.

Anura Traits

As an Anura, you have these special traits.

Poisonous skin

Contact with the skin of the Anura forces any creature that is not immune to poison to make a dc (8 + prof. bonus + con) constitution saving throw whenever they make contact with the skin of an Anura or else they get poisoned and take 1d6 poison damage every turn. Contact refers to the skin of the foe touching the skin of the Anura, ie unarmed strikes, and a poisoned enemy can remake the saving throw on subsequent turns to cure themselves. Furthermore, the Anura can opt to utilize their poison for their own offense and can coat an unarmed strike or weapon attack an amount of times per long rest equal to their proficiency bonus with the same poisonous effect and save dc as normal contact. This also grants the Anura resistance to poison

Subspecies

The Anura as a species split not too long ago with the Ranidae opting to maintain their semi-aquatic lifestyle and the Bufo opting to live on the surface.
