Homebrew Dhampir Species Details

Poised between the worlds of the living and the dead, Dhampirs walk a tenuous line, bearing both the grace of their mortal lineage and the curse of vampirism. These individuals, born from the union of vampires and mortals or cursed through dark rituals, retain their grip on life but are constantly tested by a ravenous hunger that lingers within them. Whether through a thirst for blood, life force, or more esoteric cravings, Dhampirs must find ways to manage their unnatural desires or risk being consumed by them.

Dhampirs are often outcasts, hiding their true nature while moving among the living. Their heightened senses and deathless nature give them unique insights into the undead and a powerful connection to both life and death. Many become adventurers or wanderers, pursuing a personal quest for purpose or redemption while battling the temptation to give in to their darker instincts.

Despite their vampiric nature, Dhampirs are not truly undead. They can walk in sunlight, breathe like mortals, and avoid some of the weaknesses of full vampires. However, they are forever marked by the curse they carry, with pale skin, fanged smiles, and an aura that hints at the predatory creature beneath the surface.

Whether haunted by their origins or embracing the power their lineage offers, Dhampirs are a force to be reckoned with—agile, resilient, and always a step away from either greatness or ruin.

Dhampir Traits

As a Dhampir, you have these special traits.

Spider Climb

At 3rd level, you can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free.

Vampiric Claws

  • These claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal 1d6 slashing damage plus your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice), instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for unarmed strikes.
  • You can retract the claws as a bonus action.
  • You gain advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks for climbing while your claws are extended.

Vampiric Gaze

As an action, you can attempt to beguile one creature you can see within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier).

  • On a failed save, the creature is charmed by you for 1 minute or until you or your companions do anything harmful to it.
  • While charmed in this way, the creature is incapacitated and regards you as a trusted friend.
  • You can use this feature once, and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Vampiric Ancestry

You have resistance to necrotic damage. You have advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the charmed condition, and you cannot be magically put to sleep.

Deathless Nature

You don’t need to breathe, allowing you to survive in environments that would normally suffocate or drown others. You are immune to effects that require breathing, such as suffocation, drowning, or inhaled poisons.

Restless Slumber

Instead of sleeping, Dhampirs enter a deep, meditative state for 4 hours, remaining semi-aware of their surroundings. This state provides the same benefits as a full night’s rest.
