Homebrew Abnormal Heritage Dragonborn Species Details

The Compendium of Rare and Abnormal Dragonborn as compiled by Octavia Miremourne in her travels of the realms.

He is a force of alien nature, a towering hulk, even for a Dragonborn. Not native to this plane, but primal in his bearing. But regal too, proud of his parentage, and as far as he knows, the only product of his kind. He doesn't know where his father came from, the mages of his youth stumped and fearful.

Atoran did not deserve the fear. He need not follow in the steps of his dragonkin, his presence used for good as the bastion of the Iron Flotilla. The history books laud him for his deeds. "The Young Dragon" they call him, having faced an Adult Red Dragon, it's hide now adorning him as a cloak over his own dark orange scales.

Abnormal Heritage Dragonborn Traits

Your draconic heritage manifests in a reflection of your great ancestors, providing you with unique and abnormal traits and adaptations

Abnormal Heritage

Born of dragons, as their name proclaims, the dragonborn walk proudly through a world that greets them with fearful incomprehension. Shaped by draconic gods or the dragons themselves, dragonborn originally hatched from dragon eggs as a unique race, combining the best attributes of dragons and humanoids. Some dragonborn are faithful servants to true dragons, others form the ranks of soldiers in great wars, and still others find themselves adrift, with no clear calling in life.

But not all dragonborn are native to the Material Plane. Whether it be the reclusive drakes of the Shadowfell and Feywild, exotic forces of nature from faraway lands, or wyverns from hidden realms, dragons have a habit of producing half-breed offspring. These abnormal Dragonborn may wander for long years on their own, feeling alienated due to their unusual heritage. Others are able to incorporate themselves into a dragonborn community, or society as a whole.

Proud Dragon Kin

Dragonborn look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though most lack wings or a tail. Their small, fine scales vary greatly across the many abnormal variants, without uniform shade or shape. They are tall and strongly built, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.

The blood of a particular type of dragon runs very strong through some dragonborn, reflecting their heritage from the many odd corners of the worlds.

Lonesome Wanderers

The abnormal dragonborn often come from small secluded communities, if even that, not infrequently being abandoned shortly after birth to fend for themselves. If they are lucky, in a populated area where some kind soul may take pity and take them in, if not, they are left alone in unforgiving lands.

Those who do find a community to welcome them may feel outcasts, as a shadow of their uncertain and menacing heritage looms over them, but given the chance, they will do what they can to show their worth.

Dragonborn Names

Hailing from all corners of the world with oft-unstructured upbringings, Abnormal Heritage Dragonborn lack a structured society from which they derive their names and other customs, instead adopting names from the cultures where they grow up. A Deep heritage dragonborn raised by drow will carry a typical drow name, whereas a dragonborn raised in a chromatic or metallic dragonborn community will have a more typical dragonborn name.
