Homebrew Castorian PHB24 Species Details

(Please note that a lot of useful information was gathered from the other fine creators that made castorans/castorians before me. I just wanted to update this species to reflect better on the PHB24 species list.) Castorians are a sort of beaver humanoid. They are a communal species that will construct large towns next to or in shallow water out of mostly wooden logs. They are generally good people who will go out of their way to lend a helping hand. They prefer to live in colder climates due to their thick fur but have been known to explore the vastness of the world, following wherever the rivers take them. If needed they can construct a small den for themselves in little to no time at all and they can sustain themselves by eating wood or tree bark but usually prefer a home cooked meal. They are mostly nocturnal, and because of the lack of sunlight in their homes, can sometimes stay awake for almost 30 hours straight  not knowing that the day is done.

Castorian PHB24 Traits

Bite, Darkvision, Natural Crafters, Woodland Legacy

Bite

You have teeth that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier piercing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Natural Crafters

You receive tool proficiencies in Woodcarver’s Tools and Carpenter’s Tools.

Woodland Legacy

You are the recipient of a legacy that grants you supernatural abilities. You gain the level 1 benefit of this legacy.

When you reach character levels 3 and 5, you learn a higher-level spell, as shown on the table. You always have that spell prepared. You can cast it once without a spell slot, and you regain the ability to cast it in that way when you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for the spells you cast with this trait (choose the ability when you select the legacy).

Level 1:

You gain resistance to cold damage. You also know the Shillelagh cantrip  (optional: This can be used on your Bite Trait. This might be a bit too strong depending on how you build your PC. You might want to talk to your DM about this just in case.)

Level 3:

Thunderwave

Level 5:

Barkskin
