Homebrew Anatidae Species Details
As a collective of wingless Humanoid waterfowl, anatidea share a relentless, though often angry, spirit. The original anatidea (pronounced uh-na-tuh-day) arrived as a result of powerful magic gone powerfully wrong — while living their peaceful lives on their home plane, the anatidea were unceremoniously ripped through space and time to an unknown world. They were meant to be a vindictive wizard's unnatural army, but immediately and angrily turned on their would-be commander and began their new lives in the forgotten realms.
Although their wings have long vanished, anatidea very much resemble many common waterfowl, including ducks, geese, and swans. They can vary in height from anywhere between 3 and 6 feet, give or take a few inches, and have a myriad of plume variations, though most are often green, brown, or white. While their diverse looks can make them seem unrelated, all anatidea share their ancestors' angry streak, perhaps due in large part to being transported against their will.
Anatidae Traits
As an anatidae, you have the following special traits.Creature Type
Humanoid.
Size
Medium (about 4–7 feet tall) or Small (about 3–4 feet tall), chosen when you select this species
Speed
Your walking speed is 30 feet.
Buoyant
Because of your many buoyancy adaptations, you have a swimming speed equal to twice your walking speed. You can’t use this swimming speed if you’re wearing heavy armor.
Talons
You have talons that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Choleric
You can reroll any singular die and take the higher result (if the first roll is higher than the second, you can use the first number instead of the second, lower number). Once you reroll with this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
Because you demanded to reroll, you become angry and suffer a -1 to all Intelligence checks until you finish a long rest.
