Homebrew Arboreal Lizardfolk Species Details

The saurian lizardfolk are thought by some sages to be distant cousins of dragonborn and kobolds. Despite their resemblance to those other scaled folk, however, lizardfolk are their own people and have lived on the worlds of the Material Plane since the worlds’ creation. Gifted by the gods with remarkable physical defenses and a mystical connection to the natural world, lizardfolk can survive with just their wits in situations that would be deadly for other folk. Because of that fact, many lizardfolk myths state that their people were placed by the gods in the Material Plane to guard its natural wonders.

Arboreal Lizardfolk have ever-changing colorful scales used for camouflage and social display. Unlike their semi-aquatic kin, Arboreal Lizardfolk are not adept swimmers, but what they lack in water mobility they make up for in equal with their climbing ability, prehensile tails and extendable tongues that make living and hunting in the canopies they usually call home a breeze.

Arboreal Lizardfolk Traits

As an Arboreal lizardfolk, you have the following racial traits.

Creature Type

You are a Humanoid.

Size

You are Medium.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.

Bite

You have a fanged maw that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with it, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier piercing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Tail Grip

As a bonus action, you can use your tail to manipulate an object, open or close a door or container, or pick up or set down a Tiny object.

Tethering Tongue

You can extend your tongue far beyond your normal reach. As a bonus action, you can extend your tongue up to 15ft to pull a Medium or smaller creature 10ft closer to you in a straight line, as part of the same action you can make a special attack with your Bite against that creature. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Blending Armor

While you aren’t wearing armor, your scales give you a base Armor Class of 12 + your Dexterity modifier.

As an action, you can change the color of your scales to match the color and texture of your surroundings, giving you advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in those surroundings.

Nature’s Intuition

Thanks to your mystical connection to nature, you gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: Animal Handling, Medicine, Nature, Perception, Stealth, or Survival.
