Homebrew Awoken Myconid Species Details

Due to the natural emission of pure arcane energy in the caverns this circle calls home, they have magically mutated and evolved, both physically and cerebrally, giving them access to verbal speech, unmatched lifespans, and an unsatiable thirst for knowledge and enlightenment. 

Over millennia the Sovereigns of the 5 original Myconid circles inhabiting The Arch Caverns united under the pursuit of knowledge opening up their home to other local species with the intent to share their knowledge and teachings. Later consolidating their curriculum, by founding a school named The Circle of Divine Magisters, for the areas most gifted young academics and mages (often referred to simply as, 'the Circle', since the terms former reference towards groups of Awoken Myconids slowly faded as the culture developed). It is this school and its teachings that The Arch Caverns culture, economy, and inhabitance revolve around.

While mostly keeping to the Underdark, some particularly gifted graduates of the Circle are sent top-side to spread their teachings and recruit new students. These Myconid missionaries have become the face of the Arch Caverns and the Circle to top-siders and so the honour of journeying above is not taken or given out lightly.

Awoken Myconid Traits

Adorned with caps of many shapes, sizes, and colours with spots, patches, and patterns of populating their complexion; amid skin of varying pale hues.

Awoken Rapport

Empowered by the arcane energy in their DNA, their rapport spores are able to invade, connect, and communicate with the minds of any and all lifeforms. Prolonged connection with more than 3 minds for more than ten minutes, causes exhaustion, and cannot be performed while sun-sick.

Sun-sickness

Thanks to their arcane evolution Awoken Myconids no longer fear death in the face of sunlight, however while the stronger pigmented areas of their caps and complexion remain mostly unaffected, their paler areas, notably their faces are still very sensitive to the suns rays and can burn, cause weakness and exhaustion.

Awoken Darkvision

Due to their home environment and historically lacking technology, Awoken Myconids have evolved to see in the darkest of caves without issue.
