Homebrew Dark Angel Species Details

Dark Angels are creatures often driven to the edge of civilisation, feared and hated by a thousand ideologies.
An almost extinct species driven to the edge of civilisation due to their precious feathers.

Fortune Feathers

Despite their familiar human shape and facial features, one has to be either obliviously dense or heavily drunk not to notice the obvious large black wings sticking out behind a dark angel's back.

These wings, despite being incredibly powerful, resistant and beautiful, possess one glaring weakness. Their feathers hardly regrow past their fletching stage when they start being able to fly. Their dwindling numbers, even a single feather of a dark angel is worth a small fortune and poachers will go to great lengths to obtain them, be it by raiding their homes or attacking them directly.

Scourge of the Heavens

Due to their wings, Dark Angels are incredibly agile flyers and strong combatants while in the air. Considered an apex predator, any bird will flee the air when it spots an Angel approaching. Even the aarakocra know not to challenge a dark angel in the skies, and will gladly land to avoid a confrontation with them in air-to-air combat.

Even on the ground, they're not lacking either. Due to the powerful winds generated by their strong wings, they are hard to keep grounded. Enemies trying to hold them to the ground will find themselves eating dirt head first or soaring to the sky alongside the Angel before they're even aware of what just happened.

Unholy Unjustice

"Don't stay up too long, or you might get snatched by a dark angel," is a common lesson parents teach their children. Despite their majestic flight enjoyed by even the most sophisticated of folk, spotting a dark angel is considered a bad omen. Where they land, death is supposed to follow soon after.

It is said that as a reward for everyone who slays a dark angel, the reward granted by the gods is beyond measure. Common beliefs include that whoever sleeps on a pillow stuffed with feathers will not age while they nap or those who wear them as accessories or clothing will find themselves performing inhuman tasks with ease.

Every dark angel knows this is but a stigma fabricated in the minds of the common folk, but through the aeons of hate and fear of the unknown, they have become a symbol associated with death.
Religions, churches and cults alike wish to rid the world of them, fighting with reckless might and enforcing their beliefs to destroy the angel of death.

Reclusive Folk

Due to the hate and hunt for their feathers, dark angels choose to live a life in solitude, residing atop mountains far away from civilisation, only coming down to hunt for supplies. Mostly considered extinct in most realms.

The few dark angels who wish to stay among other races live in constant fear of their neighbours plucking them alive before burning them for religious justice.
