Homebrew Blot Species Details
When a soul is shackled to ink, it rises as a blot. This process can happen naturally but it's more common for a skilled magic user to make one.
Blots are amorphous splotches of ink, bound together by magic, often taking the vague silhouette of a humanoid. However, their form is fluid, and can be deformed by things such as strong wind. The ink they're made up of is typically varying shades of dark browns or black, however, using dyes that can be changed. Their "face" only bears two eyes, glowing different hues of yellow and orange, rarely though, they can be different colors. Ink is not necessarily left behind on a surface they touch.
A blot usually lives for about 150 years, starting fully matured. After their lifespan is over, the spell binding their soul to their body dissipates and they return to a puddle of ink.
Blot Traits
As an Blot, you have these special traits.Creature Type
You are a Humanoid.
Size
Medium (about 4–7 feet tall) or Small (about 2–4 feet tall), chosen when you select this species.
Speed
Your speed is 30 feet.
Smearsight
You can see any ink within a range of 25 ft if you would have a line of sight to it.
Ink form
As a bonus action, you can turn into a sentient puddle of ink, changing your creature type to Ooze for the duration and dropping anything you are wearing or carrying, besides items DM agrees on. If you enter ink form with an effect that only effects humanoids, it carries over. You can also use a bonus action to reform, but only if there is enough space for your size class (Small or Medium). You must remain in the form you were last until your next turn. If you become unconscious, are reduced to 0 hit points, fall asleep, knocked prone, or incapacitated, you are forced into this form until the effect has subsided. Once taking fall damage, you are forced to enter ink form. If you jump while in ink form, you temporarily leave ink form, re-entering it once hitting a solid object
While in ink form, you can squeeze through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide. You cannot use an action or cast spells while in this form, but you can climb up 10ft without rolling for it. You can occupy the same space as another creature. Additionally, you can attempt to hide anywhere in dim light or darkness. You also have advantage on ability checks you make escape a grapple or being restrained, but only after one turn of being in ink form.
Ink is left behind on anything you touch while in ink form.
Written Resilience
You have resistance to poison damage, and you have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned.
Hydrophobic
Duee to osmosis have disadvantage on attack rolls made while in water, and take 1d4 acid damage every turn while you're submerged. Attacks and spells made of mostly liquid water deal an extra 1d4 acid damage to you. This damage cannot be resisted. The GM can choose to have this trait not effect you when you are under the effects of spells such as water walk, or water breathing.
Ability Score Increases
When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and a different one by 1, or increase three scores by 1. None of these increases can raise a score above 20.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and two other language that you and your GM agree is appropriate.

Posted Dec 18, 2024Salutations! I'm the creator of these goopy little goobers, and I would love feedback on them! I didn't make it all though. I took some from an inkling race, https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/HkSuAoLR, the oozefolk race https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDHomebrew/comments/12t517r/the_oozefolk_a_fullon_homebrew_race_of/ and of course plasmoids. They're all much better then whatever I could make, so please, go check them out.
