Homebrew Cephaloborn (Octofolk) Species Details
While their origins are shrouded in mystery, Octofolk are most likely related to mermaids. They hail from the elemental plane of water. An unknown cataclysm caused a portion of their population to teleport to the material plane. Octofolk almost faced extinction as the original races of Faerun often mistook Octofolk for Mind Flayers, killing them on the spot. It took a united effort with the help of other sea-fearing races to teach the people of the Material Plane that Octofolk are kindhearted and here to stay.
Octofolk are a brilliant and rare species that commonly live in large communities underneath the ocean surface. Octofolk are most often seen in massive coral reefs near beautiful coasts. As a result, while they are rare compared to other ocean races, Octofolk communities regularly interact with landraces living in coastal cities and towns. They primarily live in ocean reefs, preying on fish and crustaceans. Octofolk are described as incredibly ambitious, inventive, and crafty. As a result, they are frequently compared to humans. However, that also means they can be blinded by discovery, and easily become power-hungry.

The other standard languages originated with the first members of the most prominent species in the worlds of D&D and have since spread widely.
