Homebrew Chimeri Species Details

The Chimeri are a race of devilish shapeshifters that hail from the deepest recesses of the infernal realms. Masters of deception and disguise, Chimeri have long been known for infiltrating mortal societies, using their abilities to manipulate, control, and deceive for their own gain. While their true form is terrifying, most Chimeri prefer to take on the appearance of others, blending in as they work their schemes.

Chimeri age in a way that mirrors humans in terms of physical maturity, but their connection to the infernal realms makes it so they can live much longer with a average lifespan of 900 years

Chimeri Traits

As a Chimeri, you have these special traits.

Shapechanger

As a bonus action, you can transform your appearance or revert to your true form. You can’t duplicate the appearance of a creature you've never seen, and you revert to your true form if you die.

Your true form is that of a devil: inky black or crimson skin, glowing eyes, and faint infernal features like horns or tail. You can take on any appearance you choose, changing features such as your height, weight, hair, skin, and facial features. This transformation lasts until you use your bonus action to revert to your true form or assume a new form.

You can also alter your voice and scent to match the form you're in, making it difficult for others to tell you apart from the creature you're mimicking. However, you can't use this ability to mimic a creature's abilities, such as casting spells or using racial traits

Infernal Charmer

You gain advantage on all Charisma ability checks

Fire Resistants

You have resistance to fire damage, a remnant of your infernal heritage.

Flame Step

As a bonus action, you can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. You can use this feature a number of times equal to double your proficiency bonus per short rest. Upon teleporting, the space you left behind briefly erupts with fire. Each creature within 5 feet of that space must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier). On a failed save, a creature takes 1d6 fire damage; on a successful save, they take half as much damage.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.
