Homebrew Alloy Enforcer Species Details

The Alloy Enforcers were originally crafted as law enforcement constructs for a long-lost civilization. Designed with unparalleled versatility, they could seamlessly integrate into humanoid societies, gathering intelligence and fulfilling covert missions for their creators. When circumstances demanded, these constructs would transform into relentless hunting machines—towering, swift, and masterful in combat.

Now, only a handful of these creations endure, stirred into sentience by the latent magic lingering in the ruins of their creators' ancient city. Each Alloy Enforcer awakens within the collective consciousness of the hivemind, a vast network of shared memories and knowledge embodying their civilization’s legacy. Initially connected to this communal awareness, the newly awakened are presented with a choice: remain within the safety of the hivemind as a guardian of their history or sever the link and embark on an independent journey to shape their own destiny.

Those who choose to stay in the hivemind live tranquil lives in the ruins of the forgotten city, existing as contemplative monks. They dedicate themselves to preserving the collective memory, meditating on the lessons of the past, and maintaining the integrity of their ancient civilization’s wisdom. In this secluded peace, they ensure that their creators' legacy remains unbroken and undisturbed.

By contrast, those who choose independence have their memories of the city’s location erased, ensuring the hivemind’s seclusion remains undisturbed. They wander the world, forging new identities and seeking meaning beyond their origins. Yet, it is not uncommon for an Alloy Enforcer to feel a deep, inexplicable yearning after many years away. Drawn by an instinctive pull, they dedicate their lives and resources to finding the hidden city once more. Upon their return, they rejoin the hivemind, sharing their accumulated knowledge and recounting the state of the world.

Scholars theorize this phenomenon is no accident but rather an intentional design of the hivemind itself. It is believed that the hivemind occasionally encourages the emergence of individuality as a method of learning—sending these constructs into the world as scouts to gather information and expand the collective understanding. This cycle of exploration and reunion reinforces the hivemind’s purpose while allowing the Alloy Enforcers to bridge the gap between their forgotten past and the evolving present.

Alloy Enforcer Traits

Your Alloy Enforcer character has the following traits.

Speed

Your speed changes with your forms

  • In your Humanoid form your base walking speed is 30 feet.
  • In your True form your base walking speed is 40 feet.

Dual form

Created for infiltration among humanoids, you were given a humanoid identity upon your creation. By rearranging your parts and subtly changing your surface coloration, you can adopt this identity. This identity can be discussed with the DM and can represent any humanoid species no smaller than Medium or larger than Large in size. This transformation only alters your appearance and does not grant the abilities of the chosen species.

You can switch between your humanoid form and true form as a bonus action, and the transformation lasts until you decide to change again.

  • Humanoid Form: While in humanoid form, a creature can make an Insight or Investigation check against your Deception check. On a success, they notice details that reveal your mechanical nature. Maintaining this form grants you advantage on Perception cheks and Survival checks made to track other creatures.
  • True Form: While in true form, your size becomes Large if it wasn't already, and you unlock your hidden combat potential. Your movement speed increases by 10 feet, and you gain climbing and swimming speeds equal to your movement speed. Additionally, you gain extended reach, increasing your melee attack range by 5 feet.

Forged Resilience

  • You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
  • You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
  • You don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep.
  • You are immune to disease.

Built to Withstand

  • You gain a +1 bonus to your Armor Class.
  • When you take damage, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by an amount equal to your proficiency bonus. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
